In general I think I'm amazed how determined people are to turn the Slate into a screen-filled media consumption system.

AC at least partly hitting the tablet is a plus, if that tablet is being used for nav, and the sun is hitting it, it needs some cooling.

I can go both ways, sometimes I want a screen sometimes I don't. Having the option is what makes slate awesome!

If it's just a tiny set of buttons and it's all bluetooth, I'd love the 'speaker' controls to be left of the steering wheel on the left speaker. The passenger gets nothing!

I’ve said this same thing, or at least make it so you can flip the speaker and use it upside down. Slate loves reusing parts, so…

Think of the screen like the beautiful woman you met and married. She is everything you want or could ever need. But what you didn't realize until it was too late was that she could also be Bat$hitCrazy. "We" don't want the BSC. Now that we know this is possible, we're doing what we can to have the brains, beauty, care, consideration but none of the erratic scary, crazy, and cut you with a knife in your sleep.

I’m unsuprised some would sacrifice their own AC to cool must have infotainment. Different strokes for different folks.

That's called "Mega-DIN", or sehr groß DIN.

Why are you all still toying around with using a tablet? It will overheat after sitting in the car for a few minutes in the late summer heat. A double din head unit is the only thing you should be considering and use its BT to play your tunes from your phone.

Totally open to that…presuming I don’t just raw dog it with iPhone and old JBL pill speaker. My use case is simple: CarPlay-capable with outs to some uncomplicated speakers. What ya got?

My only reason to be considering a tablet over the phone is that my old eyes have a better time with a bigger screen. I'm also thinking of an articulating mount that I can put to the right of the steering wheel and angled toward the driver. Something like this.
