What was the time factor? It's one thing to simutate the miles. A whole nuther thing to simulate 10 years of weather. Obviously they can't do that (yet), but I'd wager by far the most serous problems would be rust and rust related issues rather than mechanical or structural failures.
Yes i know that they do weather simulations, but they are that, simulations.

Yup. Where I live, we salt the winter roads to ensure accelerated vehicle rust does happen.

Simulation is just a substitute for the real world -- and it's a true situation for all industries.
No one can know for certain what happens in the real world, but testing in simulated scenarios beats no testing at all.
I'm still pleased with Slate's efforts and look

There are facilities that can test accelerated weather. Company I worked for used them 50 years ago, would assume they likely are even better now.

Absolutely, I had Mil-Std-810 and 202 procedures memorized fairly well...but that was decades ago... :) Later on, CERT (combined environment reliability testing), HALT and HASS (highly accelerated life test and highly accelerated stress screening) were all the rage. I visited many independent environmental test laboratories on the east and west coast, but larger corporations decided to make the investment and perform testing in house. Like that 4-axis shaker that Slate has on the shop floor.
