So, we are all subsidizing @sodamo ‘s final destination to the aloha state? I’m feeling a warm breeze on the back of my neck. 😂
Now you making me feel badly.

New vehicle destination fees are set by the manufacturer by averaging total shipping costs across the country so that buyers pay a uniform fee regardless of distance. While most states share a single flat rate per model, automakers occasionally use separate, higher destination schedules specifically for Hawaii and Alaska due to ocean freight expenses

So, since Slate did not mention an alternative schedule for AK and HI when they announced the $1450 destination fee can we assume that it applies to all 50 states and territories?

Being an OEM, Slate will probably use the same logistics system the other OEMs use is my bet. That gets their trucks into all the major auto delivery hubs on the US train system (@GaRailroader knows it best). Then the "last mile" to wherever Slate will have for customer delivery points set up. TBD...

This is exactly what I meant , and the fact that Tesla, being the only really major DTC automaker maintains no additional HI surcharge, I posit a reasonable projection that it may be the same for Slate. I'm sure it'd apply only to Oahu with the other islands paying the standard inter-island barge rates.

edit: I wouldn't presume that the territories are included.

"You" (ie, the fine folks of HI) certainly shouldn't. Hawaii returns so much more to the nation then it takes in ways that cannot really be measured in pure dollars, and I've always been disappointed that so many mainlanders overlook the absolute gift that late stage colonialism brought...

The corner store is just one of Bob's many entrepreneurial endeavors. Just outside the town limits is his pick-and-pull emporium, and he gets lots of vehicles dropped off there by various various trucking concerns (mostly tow trucks, admittedly, but he has plenty of space for full length tractor trailers).
If you are being serious, then I'd say that Copart is even more likely...

And what happens if the "hub" is more than 205 miles from home? Most people live near a large metroplex, but an awful lot of us do not. The lack of vehicle shows across most of the country has me wondering whether those same large swaths of the US may have no Slate delivery hubs at reasonable pickup distances, while Slate concentrates heavily on California and New York. Of course, car shows and delivery locations are not related at all... are they?
I think one important question should be what charge level will the Slates be handed over with? Will they be able to travel the full 205 range?
“Regulations and manufacturer guidelines require new EVs to be maintained at a partial state of charge—typically between 30% and 50%—to minimize lithium-ion battery fire risks during transport, prevent chemical degradation during long-term storage, and retain enough power for loading and unloading.”
It’s possible that Slate could charge the vehicles before releasing them but it would be good to know before pickup.

Why would it be reasonable for Oahu to be included in the standard destination rate and not the other islands?

because my best guess is that Honolulu would be an official point of delivery, and that'd be the only location (in Hawaii) fully covered by the $1450 uniform destination fee.

If I made an assumption, I'd assume.
Since I postulate, I posit.

Its better then having a suppository, and having to suppose.
I love it. I prefer the use of SAT werds :)

I’m assuming the point of a national destination fee would be so the sale guy doesn’t have to calculate the cost for every purchase and then explain why it’s different from a dealer two counties over. It also keeps buyers from shopping for the dealer with the lowest destination fee. Your assumption that delivery to the neighbor islands is more costly than Oahu may be correct but that’s not a reasonable justification if you’ve made a level playing field in the rest of the country.

The difference would be if Slate only has a pickup location on one island. You would need to pick up there and transport yourself, or pay for delivery. Same as anywhere else. All will probably depend on how many orders they have to your local area, as to whether they set up a location as close as you would like. That would be a reason to be talking up Slate to people you know and others in your area, the more orders, the more convenient pickup will be.

Not really (re justification). Your logic is based on legacy franchise dealerships, its not about a "level field". None of those automakers are going to deliver into remote areas w/o additional cost where they do not have representative dealers; neither does Telsa (which delivers in Honolulu). Hawaii isn't the only place where customers incur additional cost to take delivery.

Right. Assuming Rivian prevails in Federal court, and Slate is able to sell vehicles in Ohio, more centrally located Columbus (the capitol) would be the obvious choice not only for distribution, but also for high-voltage warranty repair in the state.

Think of Columbus as Oahu where your $1,450 destination gets you, and Cincinnati, Dayton, Toledo, Cleveland, Zanesville, Chillicothe and others as the islands where the cost of delivery from Columbus is on you.
