gotta be a bit realistic about "largest service network" thing. Repair Pal is an information service. The actual shops will be all over the board in terms of expertise on the Slate, and what kind of customer experience occurs. The won't matter for simple accesory installations, but will matter for actual triage & repair scenarios.

This cannot be remotely compared to factory owned operation.

Until they explicitly list the exact Repair Pal sites that have signed up, and in what capacity, it's just hot air.

I though Repair Pal was like Angi's List or any of the other lead aggregators. Then a member shop would have to do the Slate certification on top of that. Which means it's a maybe at best for your local area.

Without Slate spreading around some incentives, the participation rate will suffer.

It might be too early in the game, but I've searched a couple of times for a Repair Pal near me, for any type of service and vehicle (Slate isn't listed yet), and can't find one near me at all. Granted, I'm kind of remote but still.

Never had a car with warranty. This will be new to me. I guess I could email a pic of my Honda master tech plaque.

pretty sure you are generally correct. I think accesory installation won't require anything special (after all, we are talking "Task Rabbit" level of work), and not surprisingly, Slate reps keep going back to these locations when talking about alternative to DIY.

Diagnosis & repair will probably be fine and universal for generic auto issues, but once something remotely unique or proprietary to Slate or EV's arises, options will clearly be much more limited.

I live in a mid-large metro, looks like theres around 40 Repair Pal "partner" shops; when I filter on EV services, that number drops to 2.

Well... crabcakes! You're probably right, hopefully someone in the area will be in the network. Time will tell.

Yeah, even dealership level high-voltage training isn't all that much. At Honda for the hybrids back in 2015 or so, it was take an online training module and get the HV pelican case from the tool room.

The HV non-dexterity orange gloves were given up on after the first hybrid pack got swapped. And once the tools started getting lost, a 10mm socket wrapped in electrical tape was the go-to fallback. For the most part, once the pack is isolated, there's really not that much over the regular stuff that can kill you.

So I wouldn't expect much out of a legacy dealerhip either.

For diag work, shipping the telemetry to slate would be enough for them to confirm that something is wrong, like a bad module.

There's only one RepairPal place listed when I put my zip in their search ... and it's a Midas ... ~50 miles away. Hopefully there will be other options where they will cover repairs at non-RepairPal places.

this is great. The website said 4 year, 50K mile roadside warranty. I guess they meant bumper to bumper .

I hate going to the dealer. So its fine for me.

The nearest one is a shop I already use that is 2 miles from my house.
