Slate Warranty Coverage Announced & Will Have 3K+ Service Centers (Most of Any Direct Sales Auto Company)

It might be too early in the game, but I've searched a couple of times for a Repair Pal near me, for any type of service and vehicle (Slate isn't listed yet), and can't find one near me at all. Granted, I'm kind of remote but still.

Just for fun, you outta call up/drop by the nearest independant repair shop that you'd remotely trust to touch your vehicle and ask them if they know anything about "Repair Pal" / what their position is on it. I took a look at their shop certifcation process, and while it does not look onerous, there's obviously unknown fees involved. I'd imagine the effort is hard to justify for shops in sparsely populated areas that have minimal competition.

I did find a lone shop in Billings, none in Butte/Helena/Missoula/Kalispell. Its hilarious since the interactive map of the states showed Zero in the state! Poor shop owner, dissed by RP.

this is great. The website said 4 year, 50K mile roadside warranty. I guess they meant bumper to bumper .

They updated it. It no longer says roadside assistance.

Heh ya, I live in C Falls; nothing up this way at all. Hell, places in Idaho and even Washington are closer to me than Billings. 😂

You're hardly alone, I won't do it.
I'm just pointing out that "largest repair network (of direct auto sales)" is clearly a reference to Tesla/Rivian and not Ford/Toyota/etc. Further, I'm saying that its apples to oranges, since Tesla/Rivian are servicing vehicles with their own operations.

The Repair pal shop where I had my Monte Carlo worked on said he was Considering it but he did not think there would be enough Slate business to purchase the necessary EV specific tools and test equipment. He said he had taken some ASE classes on EV repair though. Most of the non EV components are just like any other car so any Repair Pal shop should be able to work on it. They probably would have to get authorization from Slate first for warranty work.

There's only one RepairPal place listed when I put my zip in their search ... and it's a Midas ... ~50 miles away. Hopefully there will be other options where they will cover repairs at non-RepairPal places.

For some crazy reason there is one listed on Hilton Head Island and one in nearby Bluffton, SC. I am both surprised and thankful.

According to the press release, 200 RepairPal locations nationwide are certified to handle high-voltage repairs.

Repairpal requires shops to have good review history, and warrantee their work. I don't remember the rest, but the whole idea is that going to a repairpal shop would be something you can trust a lot better than just rolling up to a random shop.

pretty sure you are generally correct. I think accesory installation won't require anything special (after all, we are talking "Task Rabbit" level of work), and not surprisingly, Slate reps keep going back to these locations when talking about alternative to DIY.

Diagnosis & repair will probably be fine and universal for generic auto issues, but once something remotely unique or proprietary to Slate or EV's arises, options will clearly be much more limited.

I live in a mid-large metro, looks like theres around 40 Repair Pal "partner" shops; when I filter on EV services, that number drops to 2.

Good points. Do you recall how many Rivian Service Centers were in your area when they launched? The closest one to me when I took delivery was zero. I had to go 100 miles to find one.
Also, just as a data point, I’ve had 4 EVs and, knock wood, never an issue with the powertrain. The closest was the cabin heater on the Rivian and they told me not to drive it. My point is most of the issues I’ve had with EVs were simple things any qualified tech could address. As long as the manufacturer has a resolution. That is/was Rivian’s issue. “Fix pending with future sw update”.

Have they mentioned anything about DIY repairs again? I don’t expect them to let me loose on the HV stuff but all the rest I’m good with.
