i know Crayola. I have no idea who or what a Max Kolo is. Other than the wrap makes me think its for a local independent pizza delivery place that probably makes really good calzones.

With everyone saying it costs too much: it is a discount off of the custom color price.
You can choose from around 100 stock colors in total, 59 of them are $499, 57 of them range from $669 to $1399.
You can also choose any color you can come up with, looks like 77 shades on each of 13 base colors, for 1001 possible colors. Probably by launch they will have ways to preview colors better, and even the option to have you send in a sample to match to. That costs $1599. $50 more than the Crayola collabs.
The crayola collabs are based on this, a custom color match, but $50 cheaper, and some decals and such thrown in. If you want those intense colors, the collab is the cheaper option.

Seriously, what is wrong with us? We live in a free country. What evil force has been boiling lately that makes people angry if they are not part of their think-tribe?

I mentioned it before: Slate brings a lot of different forces together that are at tension politically. Because of that, I think there are a lot of people hoping it fails.

Slate as a company is trying to bring manufacturing back to the USA, and in particular, the mid-west. Having grown up in the Midwest in a family that has worked for the big 3 for generation, this excites me. I grew up watching Flint, MI fall to pieces as GM closed up shop and moved to Mexico. Everyone should be excited about this, the lives it will impact, and the associated local industries that may be grow as a result.
Slate is trying to bring in a cheaper option of vehicles into a market that is ridiculously bloated with features and expense that are wildly out of range for a lot of the population. If more people can purchase more new vehicles, that is more money into the economy. More money into the economy is generally a net benefit to everyone. If the car is cheap, it also leaves more money to spread out into other places where people can spend those saved dollars elsewhere. This very well may trickle down into other industries and local economies as a result.
Slate is breaking up the feature bloat and if that is successful, the other car companies will follow. That is, again, a net benefit to anyone wanting to buy a new car. Maybe we can get closer to Europe where people order their cars the way they want, not out of a catalogue with predefined feature sets that have the one thing you need and 12 things you don't need or want.
... and I could make other points as well. The big theme is this, Slate winning is a win for everyone. Absolutely everyone. Anyone saying otherwise has some other stake in the ground that will benefit them financially if Slate tanks (they have money in oil and in the auto industry that may have to change), or they are simply haters who love to hate. Don't listen to them. This is basic economics, friends. Macro level. Easy A classes.

Right on. And although forces want it to fail, many, many others want it to succeed. I have no problem with the Crayola thing. Car companies have done this for a very long time. (Eddie Bauer, Olympics, and so on.) What I mentioned earlier is Crayola is another company that still manufactures in the USA, which is very rare for kid-focused products. It is part of the same ethos.

LOL - I literally thought "Pizza Delivery" when I saw it. Biggest thing for me is that god-awful font. I don't know if that is his "brand" or whatever, but it sucks. There's a billion fonts out there to be licensed for a few bucks, and they chose _that_

I just wanna say I appreciate this perspective! I imagine most of us haven't looked at the custom color prices, and it makes the collab make way more sense.

My kit of choice is something I call "Sunset."

Start with a light yellow for the top of the cab, and move from yellow down to deep red at the doorsill in an ombre pattern. Medium grey wheels, leaving all the current black trim and cladding, black. The panel between the headlamps might also receive the ombre treatment, I'd have to mock it up. In my head, the yellow and orange tones would dominate, and the reds only occupy the bottom 1/6th of linear distance from the top to bottom of the scheme.

As for the Crayola angle, this is done with the box of 64 colors, and it could be made to look like quick crayon strokes on a sheet of white construction paper. Very recognizable as something from most folks' childhood. This also gives a bit of the nostalgia angle that is part of the truck's current market, if comments on Reddit and in other places mean anything.

I'll never knock fun collabs that make some wild ones, Here's some of my favorites over the years. I'm a Ford guy so these came to mind first:

The Fila Thunderbird, Funkmaster Flex Expedition, and the K2 XR4ti. Honerable mention to the cancelled 7up Mustang that Ford ended up just selling as special LX's.

I'm on the fence, in an odd conflicting way, about ALL the Slates' being the same SKU for things like this. I do love my special editions, but I'm also bummed if you order a Crayola one, for instance, it's just a regular Slate with a wrap and Slatelet. They should mold a special glovebox door or something a little more permanent that marks that it was once a little special after the wrap fades and goes away.

Kinda the point of the Slate is that nothing is 'permanent'. You could order the Slate today, sell it in 2 years, and THAT person could then order the Crayola package and apply it, making it a 'collab model'. Or maybe they go with Barbie, or MadMax, or Resident Evil, or Pokemon, or McDonalds, or, or, or.....

Thats the point; ZERO lock in. Ever. It's always 'yours' exactly the way you want it no matter how far down the list of previous owners you are.
