Yes, I had a small JBL speaker hanging from my rearview. It was both my radio and hands-off driving phone. It probably helped that I listen more to audiobooks than downloaded music. But it still tended to work better than FM transmitters that suffer interference and had crappy microphones.

A quality Bluetooth speaker will probably be just as good as any installed sound system unless your an audiophile. And audiophiles want their own custom setup anyways.

I'll start with the under-dash bluetooth speaker clamp because I think it will work pretty well while good Slate audio solutions are being developed / discovered.

My bluetooth speaker works well in my golf cart, especially when I bring two of them in TWS (true wireless stereo) mode.

The open-air cart may not be comparable to an enclosed-cab pickup, but the enjoyment-of-music factor provided by the bluetooth speaker(s) in the cart is high.

FWIW I'll likely use an AUX cable rather than bluetooth, but the sound is nearly the same either way.

I was thinking back to one of my older cars, there were some companies that were making center consoles with speakers built in. It dawned on me now that I didn't see any cup holders when I was looking around at interior shots.

I was planning on in-door 6.5" speakers, but this intrigues me.

Does anyone know what's going on in the forward floor console of the Slate?:

I don't need that space if it's just a bin; mounting outward firing speakers on both sides at the back with cupholders in the part facing the passengers would be handy. (My wife really wants space to put her purse between the two seats, so I'm reluctant to go for the factory option console there.)

While I am relieved to see a double din install being accommodated, I’m curious to see how the added draw of a stereo and 2 or 4 speakers impacts range.

As long as you don’t install a couple 1000watt amps and huge sub woofers you should be fine.

I had one of those I installed in my 66 Corvair because I didn’t want to mess with the factory dash openings and keep the original AM radio but wanted a CD player too.
