Not really competitors but interesting side-by-side size comparison between the Slate pickup and Rivian R2

Perspective in the last shot is making the Slate look bigger, like holding a fish out at arm's length for the photo. But the Slate generally looks larger in these photos than I would have expected!

I'm still considering the lowering kit for my Slate suspension - might go more than 1" - but you're saying I might want to chop and drop the top as well?

Perspective is your enemy. But one thing I've loved about the Slate from the moment I saw it it is that they said "screw aerodynamics" from day one. That big, minimally raked, tall windshield is exactly how I like my small truck.

Nobody does that in 2026 for a bunch of reasons, mainly aero. Ford even said so with the UEV, noting that every millimeter is more range or less battery. It's nice to see that Slate said "Hobbits keep nasty aero. We likes our trucks old school" (with apologies to Gollum).

The Rivian R2 is 184" long. Using the R1 as an example, the truck variant (which is probably coming) would be longer. The R1T is 16" longer than the R1S.

Rivians are typically quite wide, giving a sense of comfort inside. People often focus on height, but if you have two people in the vehicle a lot for long periods, width is really important. That doesn't seem to be a use case for the Slate - it's kind of a one-person vehicle.

It’s the perfect shape actually. High cabin over a relatively low hood and bed, and overall narrow body width. Optimal for maximum visibility. Will make it very easy to maneuver and park.

I don't think they said "screw aerodynamics" They said "how good can we get aerodynamics without it looking like we tried."
So it's got micro spoilers at the back of the cab and on the tailgate, the roofline is a curve, lay flat handles, and probably a bunch of other details we don't notice

Slate ground clearance is 7.8" standard, 6.8" lowered, and I think ~10" lifted (not sure how high the lift kit is, or how much clearance is gained by the larger tires it accomodates).

I've done some aero work in my day. It's remarkable how slippery something that looks "non-aero" can be (and vice versa). I'm sure the Slate aero team did their homework.
