Tell me the door handles are incorrectly mounted on this Slate

I was catching up on Slate videos, and this one is a walkthrough back in Dallas. The top picture is the slate on the passenger side and the bottom is the driver side. Notice that the handle faces the opposite direction - the driver side pulls towards the front to open, and the passenger side pulls towards the back to open.

It also looks like the second picture has the door "handle" mounted way too high - it's out of alignment with the body line, whereas the first picture shows it in-line with the body line. Since it appears to be upside down, this "mounted high" and "backwards" makes sense if it was just mounted upside down.

I am betting same p/n for left and right side. Perhaps they can flip it over for one side so it is consistent on both doors.

I have seen videos with it both ways. most of the older videos seem to have it so you slide your hand in from the back with the hinge towards the front. In the more recent videos they seem to have switched that around.

I'm not watching any more videos until there's a real production truck off the assembly line with real production parts. Videos seem to show patched together Slates.

this is definitively a passenger side door latch incorrrectly mounted on the drivers side. probably also why it appears too high.

presumably, the door not operational....

Those are all pre production prototypes, lots of things will change.

doubtful. you can see endless other images and videos where latches from both sides are "mirrored" so not the same part. it'd also be a poor idea to then have the keyhole in different relative positions.

The question here is, prototype jank, or deliberate parts reduction?

I checked the Slate Maker. Not a final promise either, but probably more "what it's supposed to look like". The lighting favors the left side, but you can still pivot the camera and see the right. Looks like the "hole" is always in front, there.

Yes, it makes sense to me too based on how I would get into a car. On the drivers side, with the latch hinge towards the back, you open the door with your left hand, your body towards the rear of the door and it easily swings open. With the hinge towards the front you would need to open the door with your right hand putting your body in the way of the opening door. I think they were going for aerodynamics with the first one but in the prototype phase they realized it wasn't practical and flipped it around.

I thought all 4 door handles were the same part, inside and outside. It's the Slate way of keeping the number of parts low. One SKU for 4 applications. I'm not saying that the handle is installed correctly for the final product.
