It's probably not brick but rather wood block. A lot of manufacturing plants built in the early to mid 1900's used hardwood block flooring rather than concrete. This allowed for easy reconfiguration of the manufacturing assembly line(s) if required for new or different products. Usually, the blocks were covered with creosote or a tar. Harwood block is highly durable as a factory flooring material.
Another benefit of the hardwood block is that it helped isolate machinery and reduce vibrations which can transmitted to the floors, columns, and the rest of the building structure.

Back in the day, one of my projects was adding a large, in-ground, parts vapor degreaser to the Lock Mart drop hammer building. The concrete floor around (and isolated from) the drop hammer we were installing next to was 4 feet deep; the drop hammer's foundation was 16' deep concrete. Built in 1923 (this was around 1990 for the install) the 67-year-old concrete was hard as granite by then. It took us two months to cut, break up, and remove the concrete. We all wished the drop hammer's building was blocking like the rest of the factory building were. All 1 million feet of it. LOL.
