What will the chemistry be on the standard range battery?

If there's 10 days until the June 24th pre-order and waiting is this difficult, how patient will we need to be for delivery windows in 2027?

Right? Like I get the thirst for knowledge but trying to spoil/leak any potential plans/news leaves a bad taste in my mouth. We've been waiting over a year, and now we're 10 days out. I've been at peace with my reservation since the beginning, and am looking forward to any news they share on the 24th.

I've noticed you post a lot about what they tell you in these forums, so that probably contributes to their lack of info sharing.
They're so close to the big announcement, and at the end of the year they'll be doing their first deliveries. The agents I've chatted/emailed with have all been very friendly and open to answering what they can, I respect their stance to protect their business and hold back information they can't share publicly.

Until further notice it’s safe to assume it’s an NMC battery, there was an article recently I posted on Reddit saying it was LFP but there’s reasons to not take that article as fact for now. This is a comment I wrote on Reddit that I feel is relevant here:

The best evidence in support of a switch to LFP is the fact that after the tax credit went away Slate said they were working with their battery supplier to get the price down since they had a bunch of unused batteries from cancelled EV projects. They also said one advantage of the tax credit going away is that they didn’t need to strictly follow its requirements anymore which included using domestic batteries. Which for this year the only domestic option was NMC from my understanding. It’s fully possible they already had plans of switching to LFP when it became possible to do so but the tax credit being lifted gave them the option to switch now. Though to your point doing that and still meeting the delivery date is very difficult.

But the main reason to not take it as fact is this isn’t a quote from the CEO and it’s not presented in the article as if the Truck switched to LFP. It’s presented as if the Truck was always using LFP batteries which we know isn’t the case.

With all that being said I doubt it’s two different battery chemistry since that goes against the whole single SKU ethos of the Slate Truck, adding complexity into the production process.

The US battery market is highly dynamic right now - limited capacity, lots of buyers, but also a lot of projects getting canceled or delayed, meaning you have this situation where at first it seems impossible to buy - all the production capacity is claimed - but then all of a sudden something changes and there is a great deal on a new production slot if you can act quickly. Slate would be wise to keep a few irons in the fire at all times and make sure they've qualified more than one cell manufacturer in their design.

So I don't know what the final battery options will be, but I bet they will be different than what they thought in 2024, and I bet they'll be different again in a year or two.

NMC. SK On doesn't make NCA or LFP for cars in GA. That's who Slate has a contract with for making the batteries for the truck.

Article only mentions LFP for ESS not EVs. Interesting excerpt:

Mordor Intelligence also reported that major automakers favor NCM for balancing range and safety. Eric Kuyper, chief technology officer of US EV maker Slate — which signed a supply deal with SK On in April — explained that achieving long range “was only possible with NCM” due to limited space under the vehicle floor.

Note that this article was from October of 2025 so I don't think it disproves that Slate could be using LFP for standard range.

I'm trying to not get my hopes up on LFP, but I can't help but wonder if they actually have changed the small pack to LFP, they might have increased the size too. If they used the same volume as the NMC extended pack, they should be able to get mid-60s kwhs with LFP. That would give it the same pack size and chemistry as the new Bolt.

I think the smaller overhead buffer size of an LFP could allow some extra headroom for cold weather range loss. We’ll see. I know LFP was an interest of mine with Ford and Telo.

yeah but the fact still stands not out right denying it like they had done before leads to speculation and i do to but i have been seeing a trend among company's holding back to much information and leading to poor reception by the general audience
