I see this feature as a benefit and the engineers probably designed it this way to make loading & unloading the frunk easier. By lifting that grille piece out of the way when opening the hood, it opens up that front frunk area for a lower loading height.
Another shot where you can see its size compared to Cybertruck a little better. The Slate is gonna be the easiest pickup truck ever to parallel park! Look at how little space it takes between the lines :like:
