I see this feature as a benefit and the engineers probably designed it this way to make loading & unloading the frunk easier. By lifting that grille piece out of the way when opening the hood, it opens up that front frunk area for a lower loading height.

5' foot bed works just fine for the vast majority of midsize and compact pickup truck owners. The Maverick sells great with less than 5-foot length bed. The Tacoma with 5-foot bed sells in much larger numbers than the 6-foot bed version.
