Ugh.. I need a backseat. I love the slate concept, but hate SUV form factor… very hard decision, not made easier by the high prices of the SUV options…
Thanks, didn’t know about the Latch system, that’s great. Thanks all. Just the one infant, we had to sell our old single-cab pickup due to no backseat.
In a podcast recently I heard the hosts talking about a video they saw of how to access the rear seat. Anyone seen that?
My family has grown since I put down my $50 back on day 1, but I am still determined to put Slate in my driveway, even if that means getting one of the SUV kits. However I haven’t found any information on car seat attachment points, or any videos on rear seat access.
Does anyone have any...
As has been said 100 times before: if features are what you want, buy literally anything else on the market, new or used.
If features are what you don’t want, buy a slate.
I think the RWD vs FWD is far less important these days than EV vs ICE. Electric motors have an order of magnitude faster sampling and response times, allowing far better traction control than is possible on an ICE car. That’s why an EV can have such repeatable 60ft times, but a similarly...
30k miles for brakes on an EV?? That’s crazy… I virtually never did brake jobs when I worked at Tesla, even very high mileage… Audi needs to work on their regen programming.
As others mentioned, it sort of cool, but makes no sense. But this is more or less how it’s normally done:
panels > separate buffer battery > inverter > charge port
Plenty of losses , but it’s the only economical way.
If LFP didn’t almost exclusively come from China, Slate would be using them. As it is, too much political uncertainty to bet the farm.
I look forward to the day when North American LFP gets ramped up.
FWIW….
The packs will almost certainly be the same physical size. The question is how to change the vehicle configuration successfully
It will never be a factory-supported DIY endeavor. Far too much could go wrong, too much kinetic and electrical energy at play.
Different companies have...
There is a lot I can say about this ... I'll just leave it at: I would be very surprised that a boutique motorcycle company with no background in battery manufacturing was the one to crack solid state, which has been the focus of billions of R&D dollars by dozens of companies over the last decade.
For me it's not the money or the sleaziness of it... It's the time. I have too much going on to spend an afternoon or two every year in a dealership lobby. Even a jiffy-lube trip is generally a few hours all told. And don't get me started on weekly trips to the gas station.
I'm not sure why you have the lower limit at 20%... While it is true that EVs do not like to be stored below 20%, there is no issue with driving them below that number. I have no qualms arriving somewhere with 2% if there is a charger there. And while it is good practice not to leave an NMC...
I used to Autocross a lot back in my BMW e30 days...
Even if the SCCA decides to allow the Slate, the real question is...
Will there be a way to disable traction control? Autocross relies on being able to rotate the vehicle.
I sincerely hope there is a simple switch, just like in the old...
