I respectfully disagree with your perspective. While it's true that there weren't many AWD vehicles in the past and RWD cars performed adequately for most situstions, they can struggle in more challenging conditions like ice and steep hills. That's where AWD, 4WD, and tire chains really shine...

Actually the maverick is on my list. My first kid will be learning to drive in 2027, so the timing is perfect. I think the slate would be a great vehicle to add to family for local travel. My first car was. Chevy Luv, and this reminds me a lot of that.
I wouldn't say never., but I doubt it. I think we'd have see them become successful with there current projects before they would branch out. If they do it will be a long time out
