  1. Battery Skate Platform - can it be dropped / lowered for replacement?

The value of "DIY" replacement is being able to do it if Slate goes out of business after 2 years. I'd be interested in a battery upgrade after 10-20 years. I don't know what kind of batteries we'll have then, but I expect they will be pretty awesome. Maybe, like the Nissan Leaf, people will...
  2. Review video: I Drove the Slate Truck and it’s actually Great! (by MilesPerHr)

Nice catch. I thought it was going to be in the mirror, but I like this better.
  3. How does the Slate turn on?

When I rented a car on Turo, the owner put the key inside and then remote-locked the car; when I arrived at the pick-up location I texted him and he remote-unlocked it. More secure than leaving the key on top of the front left tire or whatever, in a public parking garage. Hilarious idea. I...
  4. What is your transmission or drive control experience?

Probably "Hey anybody else having this weird issue?" On-topic, my dad's lawn tractor, when I was a kid, used 1pd, where the one pedal was the clutch. But I still didn't check the advanced option.
  5. Info on ECU, telematics, secure gateway, etc. -- CyberCogs power architecture

On past cars I've had a LCD scangauge mounted on top of the steering wheel that plugged into the ODB port, and I discovered the hard way that it was not good to cool it below -10 deg F.
  6. Info on ECU, telematics, secure gateway, etc. -- CyberCogs power architecture

I didn't see that quote at that article. It does say "Maintaining 100% SOC indefinitely causes electrolyte crystallization." (Maybe by not being logged into linkedin I saw a shorter version of the article?) In reality, the exact length of time before damage occurs probably varies greatly from...
  7. Info on ECU, telematics, secure gateway, etc. -- CyberCogs power architecture

This is true, but I don't think 8 hours is an extended period. 8 weeks would be.
  8. Dash Cam install in your Slate, YEA or NAY?

Dash cams are great. If I am ever in an accident, I want to have it on video.
  9. Complexity means more potential bugs - thousands of Honda owners discover this today

Reminds me of my favorite line in Armor by John Steakley: "Bugs! It's full of bugs!"
  10. Home made custom Dash ideas

I am unlikely to be the only person whose Slate has a hood ornament.
  11. Anyone planning alarm / anti-theft system on their Slate?

Many years ago my dad pointed out a bumper sticker to me that said "Insured by Smith & Wesson". There's a car that never got stolen.
  12. Ride-Alongs Posted for Many Cities / States!

I might be able to make it to the Chicago event. What I really want is for my wife to have a ride-along. :)
  13. Do you name your vehicles?

We often name our cars, preferring short names so that it is faster to say them. "The Prius C" is four syllables! By the time I'm done saying it I've forgotten what I was going to say about it! Our RAV4 was "big" because it was so huge! Way more car than we wanted, but at the time it was the...
  14. Rival: 2027 Kia EV3 priced at $29,890 in USA. Up to 321 miles range

I'm glad the EV3 will finally be offered in the US. I am open to it for myself / us, even though it has some elements that I don't need or want. And, while KIA temporarily looked good in the EV world due to how good the EV6 and other early HMG EVs were, in the end they are still KIA and...
  15. Preliminary Small Mod Ideas

A modular rail there seems like a very practical thing. But the more I think about it, the more I want a ridiculously large glove box behind that entire half of the dashboard.
