Oh I have no idea what they have strapped/mounted to the top, but I can all but guarantee it isn't to stop the elements from getting into the bed.

Those may be an early or new design for the tower racks, they line up with the roof rack if you get it, if not yes they are taller than the cab so things you strap down aren't resting on the roof of the cab.

Yeah problems is it's usually like an $50 entrance fee to get in and you usually need to schedule a slot to talk to anyone from Slate, it's more of a trade show and not a car/gun show.
