Dear Slate - you need to show these things before I'll buy

I'll be first in line! I've followed the 'first releases' of a few cars over the years and it seems like first batches/redesigns of everything from Broncos to Cybertrucks, Fieros to Elements, are always gonna have something. Hopefully it's something small like the Element's new '07 instrument...

Slate makes the cover of Car & Driver magazine!

One thing that's kind of neat is down the line if someone wants to pick up a used one, it doesn't hurt too badly if it's not the specific configuration they wanted. They can just order whatever is missing separately. As someone who has been in that boat, hunting for a specific trim level with...

    Slate poaches Tesla engineering manager

That post reeks of Linkdin. That site's userbase is from a whole 'nother planet sometimes.

Video (Audio): Interview of Tisha Johnson, Slate's Head of Design

Ah, the 'Bar of Soap' design, one of the few automotive design trends I'd rather never see make a comeback. On more than one occasion I'd have a box that would it in the BACK of the trunk, but not the front due to those sloped trunk lids.

Articles and Videos of Interest That Don't Merit Their Own Threads

I've had a coworker who has been following Aptera for years and years. He was also an Elio fan and almost got his hands on an ElectraMeccanica SOLO before they recalled almost all of them. The Telo trucks seem nice, but I think they're going to outsource production, which is always a recipe for...

Articles and Videos of Interest That Don't Merit Their Own Threads

Hemmings wrote an article two weeks ago comparing the Slate to a Ford Model A: https://www.hemmings.com/stories/out-of-balance-is-the-slate-the-new-model-a/

    Performance in snow?

Youtube gave me this one as well, I wasn't expecting Mazda's SUV/CUVs to perform so well.

Does the SUV kit make sense?

Those with the optional rear tire could go the old-school route of the third taillight above the tire:

Everything there is a positive for me but the sunroof. I have already posted about it before, but I've seen a leaky sunroof total out a Volkswagen*. Just more things to go wrong. Optional I can say OK to, but give me the option to not have it. *Why would you put the BCM under the driver's side...

Slate Open-Air Top -- "The cherry on top is no top" photos

Bestop makes really good stuff. I've been using two of them for years and they've held up really well.

Does the SUV kit make sense?

The subject is already beaten to death, but the SUV kit, as we have seen with what people say about AWD, extended range, ect. is probably more for if you might need it every once in a while. When I was looking for a convertible weekend car, I wanted one specifically that had rear seats, because...

Using Rear Footwell Space for Spare Tire Storage (Design Ideas)

I don't know how they're set up yet, but my Geo has the tailgate-mounted spare tire. The jack and lug-wrench are mounted under the passenger seat. These are things that are probably completely absent on the prototype.

Ford EV Announcement Aug 11 - livestream registration link

Whenever I want to make my day a little worse, I like to go on the Ford Europe car site and look at the Focus ST Wagon we aren't getting state-side.

Will the Slate’s 8 seconds to 60 mph be adequate for safe highway merging?

My worst offender is a little over 13 seconds for 0-60 and I haven't really had any problems getting on the highway. Passing on the other hand, the time it takes to go from 50-70, would be interesting to see. In my Geo and LTD that's a death wish.

Will you be installing a Level 2 charger?

Level 1 might be all I end up needing for overnight charging. I've got outlets right at the end of the garage that I could plug it into. The only downside is I did the wiring. 🔥

ARTICLE: You Need Way Less Range Than You Think

In case anyone doesn't realize this, if you have the feature turned on (knowing Google it's on by deafult) your phone has probably been logging every trip you make every day. Google's Timeline even gives you driving miles. I pulled up my Google maps timeline for the last four years and looked at...

Using Rear Footwell Space for Spare Tire Storage (Design Ideas)

I think the hump is a great idea. I don't mind having a tire on the tailgate but I think that this hump makes for a great cargo box. My LTD Country Squire actually has a similar setup, just done parallel with the wagon on one side. I'll post a picture below. On my Country Squire, Ford put a...

CNBC Video: Can Bezos-Backed Slate Build An Affordable EV Truck In The U.S.?

I've been up to 90+ in some cases here on Texas highways keeping up with traffic. The wide, flat, smooth highways give people way more confidence than they should have for a packed semi-urban freeway. My poor Tracker has been up to 85 on it a few times. It happily did it, but it was LOUD.

Slate's Tisha Johnson is an Honorary Judge at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance

Just caught that she's there in the livestream. Slate's really rubbing elbows with the big wigs. Lucid and Ford's EV team had a representative there as well. If I can keep watching I'll see if they do any random judge interviews.

    Factory Delivery option

I'd fully expect my local (whatever repair company Slate partners with) to be where I pick mine up. Whoever is their Slate representative will give me a quick ten minute tour of how to turn it on and off and what accessories are with it, and send me on my way.
