Would be nice to see Slate offer the extended battery version (relabeled Standard) as an attractive base model and offer the smaller, repositioned as lower cost/budget variant.

I’m hoping Slate will be a used market value overall, but hold its own value reflecting less depreciation.

Not really. The price is basically unchanged, just articulated differently and now who pays for it.
