Iād be perfectly happy with a blank Slate. My dogs are the problem as I never taught them to ride in an open bed and I really would be pissed if someone stole one of them when parked at HD or Walmart. If the basic SUV no seat / topper option isnāt available at very reasonable price I will...
Cost benefit analysis a challenge.
For me, the commercial cost of kw isnāt a factor. Comes down to the extra range from larger battery vs solar generated away from home. If I can get an additional 10-15 miles via on board solar for $1000 or less vs $5k for larger battery, very tempting.
I think the majority of folks talk themselves into buying what is on the lot, readily available rather than wait for something more basic, less profitable for dealer. These days the decision isnāt based on $xxxx price difference, but $xx/month and dealers have gotten very adept at that approach.
Most likely, but will start with Level 1. I am completely off grid, solar power only so some constraint. My plan is to charge daytime only using excess PV production to minimize my house batteries. At this point a Level 2 charger would have to be installed in my tractor shed, next to my solar...
The SuV/Cargo back is my only must have, for the dogs. still on the fence as far as battery upgrade. Figure anything else will be Dyi after the fact. This assumes I still have my Tundra. Should I decide to unload that prior to Slate (unlikely) just might have to treat myself more generously.
I always tell our son that his inheritance will include a number of fully appreciated assets. Any new vehicle, tractor, etc we chose to buy with potential inheritance money will be fully appreciated by his Mom and I.
Thanks. as I stated not something Iām very knowledgeable about And should I ever move into a condo/apt, very likely I wonāt be driving. Ah, have I mentioned self driving vehicles for seniors?
i do think charger availability will become more and more important and a challenge, especially older...
So at this point, I canāt really make a decisio, just explore the possibilities.
1. Go with the upgraded battery, cost unknown, as it would likely address all my concerns, possibly other benefits.
2. Explore the PV on roof, solar charger type battery such as Bluetti with DC capability. Total...
Of all the factors involving lower income folks, my guess is the charging factor might be the most important. To be honest, Iām not that experienced in apartment/condo living, but I would assume there is and will be more lack of chargers. Would someone pay more rent for charger on site? how many...
Again I find myself agreeing with you. The low income segment would seem a small market for Slate. Iām definitely not wealthy, but my wife has tried to instill frugality. The fact I could potentially never buy a commercial charge and charge from my home PV would be frugal indeed.
I could be wrong of course, but seems to me that many here extolling the perceived negatives the Slate vs something like a Maverick arenāt really in the market for a truck, most anything with room behind the rear seat would suffice If completely honest. OK, maybe a few whose trash cans wouldnāt...
The integrated PV approach definitely risks obsolescence, then again, my House panels already are, but still function admirably.
Iād even be happy with a partial solution. roof mounted panels I can integrate into the 12vdc system and charge a battery similiar to the Apex 300 that Ican recharge...
I donāt see myself doing a full wrap. Sometimes I think a highlight stripe of 76 Toyota pu blue in homage to my wifeās old truck would be nice. On the practical side, Iāll be 80yo when I get my Slate, likely still in good shape for my estate. When time comes.
I purposely bought a 4 door crew cab Tundra 1794 last Nov. There are many times I have 2 additional, but sometimes only 1 additional passenger. Love this truck, but honest it has way more tech than I want, more than I use. Amazing the number of times something may need to be turned...
