When I was looking at my truck 15 months ago, I got all excited when I read that I could upgrade SYNC3 to support CarPlay. Purchased the truck about Feb24. Further research showed the truck was a Canadian version and only had SYNC1, so no CarPlay for me. (the truck spend about 2 years in...
I know it's silly, but I always like the five lights on top of the cab on larger trucks, like F250. I gather they are required on larger vehicles(?), don't quite understand why they aren't on F150, since I thought the cab is the same size.
Anyway, another option.
I hope they come up with a good (&cheap) solution for this.
A usual way of flat towing vehicles that don't allow it, is to use a tow dolly, that just gets the front wheels off the ground. (Those dollies tend to start at $500 minimum) And junk up your campsite with a heavy, hard to move by...
Sorry your dream is suffering!
Note that two of your items are Hawaii state laws. Hard to blame Slate for those.
And your final item about unlocking from an app: I don't quite see how this is possible, unless you leave your phone in the truck? The Slate by itself doesn't have any modems, so...
(Referring to "I suspect Amazon prime members will not have to pay extra for subscription fees.")
I think this is supposed to be humor, related to Jeff Bezos (=Amazon) investing in Slate. I'm getting sick of these comments, until it is proven that Bezos has some management oversight/control...
I'm trying to understand the nuances myself, too. No experience with CarPlay or Android Auto. I believe it has enforced safety issues also. Notice that the Home screen in the sample above doesn't have any video apps, for example Apple TV. I'm happy with that decision, plus I think it takes...
My first (in 1974) was a '69 Chevy Chevelle Malibu. A 2 door with the vinyl hard top. $340.
The automatic shifter knob was missing, so I customized it with a wooden one. And added an 8-track player!
First new car was '80 Toyota Celica lift back. 5 speed manual. I had mostly driven manual...
One way or another, there is a heck of a lot of tech in a modern vehicle. All of it regulated and required:
TPMS (RF connection to dash display, sensors in the tires)
AEB - that is required now, right? Radar? or Cameras
Antilock brakes,
Air bags - sensors, should I inflate?
Stability...
Again, I disagree. You want to put the Slate in the "compact commuter utility truck" pigeon hole. Other people might use it differently. I would certainly expect to take it out on the highway. And the batteries now are either 150 or 240 miles. What if there is a 400 mile battery that weighs...
I sort of disagree. Why can't you buy your $25K truck and customize it the way you want, and I do the same?
I think the Slate has AEB (automatic emergency braking) because it is required. Might be most of what is needed for comma.ai to add ACC (automatic cruise control). I wouldn't install...
Some interesting facts/details (posted by @cadblu):
... The option to have only driver side power window controls.
...
I hope it also works to only have power windows on passenger side, with controls on both sides.
I think I'll be able to sit in one next month in Detroit. (Hmmm, I was probably within ten miles of Troy HQ last week). And I would certainly take a drive to Warsaw for a test drive, if necessary.
As a DIYer vehicle, if Slate could at least run conduit, that might be nice. From the dash toward the doors, a good path back behind the seats and one up to the ceiling (& near rear view mirror)?
I learned about the value of conduit about five years after building my house. Cat5 ethernet to...
There has been a big controversy over how EVs should pay their "fair share" for several years now. I think at least half the states (including mine) charge EVs extra. I think your $50 fee is among the lowest. The issue received more attention recently when the proposed new Federal budget...
The method I've heard is to buy crashed Leafs that still have an undamaged pack. At least the first ten years of them all had the same physical size, in kWh of 20, 30,40. So range about 75, 115, and 150 miles. Not sure if the newest models at 240 miles are still the same size.
There are...
Boats and campers are the most popular in Michigan. Otherwise just utility trailers with whatever; oh, and snowmobile trailers in the winter. We have about 1 million registered boats here. (State population is ~10 million) Very pricy to get a boat slip, so most boats are on a trailer in the...
I assume with two front buckets, the passenger rides in the bed, so the (highly intelligent looking) dog rides up front? :)
I had to review the laws about riding in truck beds. Still legal in 38 states!
I bought a '16 F150 super cab/long bed last year. Yes, the 40-20-40 front bench seat does have a center shoulder belt. A solved problem.
I would like to compare a front bench seat in the Slate. I might prefer it?
And a center air bag isn't required, apparently. I might hope the passenger...
I'd rather be allowed to worry about the range myself. I hope they can re-think the tow capacity and come up with 2k or 2.5k as still being safe. Most of the small utility trailers are minimum 500 pounds empty, so a 1000# limit is very limiting. What if there is a business that just wants to...
