Elio Motors didn't have the same level of funding or brand awareness that Slate currently has. It's hard bringing a car to market but Slate has the best chance in my opinion of doing that imo. But they really need to come out by 2027 since all the legacy manufacturers are developing more...
My Prediction: AWD Drive Slate - International Expansion with Right Hand Drive Model - 4 Door Slate XL - Achieve Profitability - Slate Car/Sports Car (Affordable car that brings back the classic tuner/ricer culture from the early 2000's but with a modern twist).
Biggest Win for Slate would have Standard Range Blank Slate start at 24K and Long Range Blank Slate start at 28K. But I agree I think we are likely looking 25K Price Ideally for the Blank Slate but they don't want to promise that yet.
My expectation for a Blank Slate Standard Range is 25K-27K. It's a hard sell for a bare bones truck at 30K. Either way the key for Slate is going to have the most attractive monthly payment financing options.
You're right Slate should be easy enough to use the old fashioned way and the back up camera will be a helpful tool for the blindspot from the bed. But that doesn't change the fact that if it's cheap and small reviewers are not going to be kind to it.
Slate has a tough job with the Blank Slate...

Makes me wonder if slate's frunk will have a drain so you can put ice in it. Definitely not needed for the first model but would be nice if they have one or have it in a refresh model
I disagree to an extent, Slate being basically an American Kei truck and going the minimalist route is one of the appeals of the truck and honestly will likely be the majority of Slate truck owners. Where the configurator is just a question of how barebones of a truck you actually want.
But...
Adding on this the other aspect is every single person who is interested in the Slate Truck has a price in their head they aren't going to go over. So people will be adding and subtracting customization options to get as close to that price as possible. If they are still a little over than they...
I'm a fan of Doug but didn't agree with his take but I understand why he has it. The reason we like the Slate Truck is because it goes against the grain of the current automotive market. But that's why it's also a big risk, since people can say one thing on social media about what they want...
