Oversimplified- my point is: Most people use an audio system while in the vehicle. Excluding that audio system is a deterrent to a customer, unless it is relatively easy to install one post-purchase. Most consumers do not install aftermarket audio in their car, so it is a new world to them. The...
Well, that is a testament to perceived value vs cost. If a consumer is willing to pay (consciously or unconsciously) more than it would cost to add a feature- excluding that is "bad value" to said consumer.
Edit-
Also, the cost to add a head unit (changing my language from radio, because I...
BIngo!
And, what matters to one consumer does not matter to another. For me- the Slate doesn't cross shop with the Maverik, because I don't care about a bed.
Any "low cost" EV compares for me. R2, Equinox EV, and maybe even the new Bolt EV.
Others see it entirely differently, and that's okay...
Fair enough points. We don't have to agree.
Only point I am surprised by is that 70% figure. Feels awfully high to me, anecdotally, but perhaps is my biases.
May I introduce you to downloaded music?
I spend a lot of time in areas with no cell service, and often times areas where the radio doesn't reach. Spotify downloads have never failed me.
Live sports are great, if you are okay listening to the one team broadcasted in your area. Streaming audio...
Why are they moot? Because most people don't use them.
A vast vast majority of consumers- especially those buying a tech-heavy car in a Tesla- stream music, podcasts, audiobooks, etc from their phone (or integrated apps), as opposed to listening to the radio.
So yes, a big step removing it...
Do they have integrated speakers? That's the much larger issue.
Radios are relatively moot, a topic that has been beat to death here. No speakers is a much larger jump.
Sure, totally agree.
Some buyers will be pulled from Slate to leaf, some Leaf Buyers to Slate, some will go buy a Escalade because they can and that’s what they were in the mood for today.
Competition is good for the consumer, and the leaf will likely push on Slate to provide a better value...
For sake of taking whacks while we wait for more news, I'll take a whack at your whack!
Referencing my original post- I was saying the Leaf will potentially drive some drivers who are not interested in a specific form factor - if you want a EV truck- the slate will always win over the leaf...
100%. In my opinion, Slate drew a large chunk of people who wanted a cheap EV to pop around in. Some need the form factor of the Slate, but most do not.
For that buyer, it is hard to argue the Slate is a better option, assuming equal price.
