As a second (non-RV) vehicle, there is nothing I would choose over the Blank Slate Truck - hard to wait a year for it, especially after I've sat in a tour prototype!!
However, if I was replacing our primary vehicle (SUV), I'd be looking for a four door Range-Extended Electric Vehicle (REEV) AWD...
Great idea - and by the way, it's my understanding that the battery case is the same size regardless of standard or extended range; the standard option cell count doesn't completely fill the case but the additional cells for the extended range do.
Given a choice, I would prefer LFP for additional safety and lifetime (charger cycles) over the NCM chemistry that Slate has announced. And maybe SK On will be able to minimize the energy density reduction/vehicle range reduction penalty:
“We are developing high-performance LFP batteries...
Sat in one at the Olympia WA tour, all good for me. The size (nearly same as 2-door Bronco) is perfect. I'd order one today for early 2026 delivery if that was possible. I love the 600-part Blank Slate proposition - simple and easy to maintain.
Every one of these four points speaks directly to me and my hope and dreams for Slate Truck ownership!
I read a daily GM auto digest, and nearly every day one of the newest models needs a fix for something! I don't want to pay for a new vehicle that has that has constant issues. I'm counting...
I would happily travel to one of many local native American casinos to accept delivery of my Slate Truck - seems so much simpler than the state car dealer rules/exemptions route. Also seems like a win-win for the casinos (increased customer visits).
I'm interested in three types of dash mounts: vertical phone, horizontal tablet (iPad), and a mount that will accept a RAM ball adapter (e.g. kayak-type gear track rail). The reason for the RAM ball is for use of a Garmin GPS for travel in areas of poor cellular coverage. I'd hate to have to...
Here's another Level 2 EV charger related question. Since the Slate Trucks NMC batteries will last longer if not charged to 100% routinely, how is the charging limit going to be set? From what I can tell, the limit will have to be set using the Slate Truck app, not by a 3rd party Level 2...
I see that the federal (30%) tax credit for EV charging equipment and installation is set to expire on June 30th 2026. I already have a dedicated 50A NEMA 14-50R for EV charging in the garage that should work fine with the Slate included charging cord. However, the Slate website says: "Many EV...
I love this list, but think it needs at least one more item:
8. Slate-backed auto insurance. Otherwise, the cost of ownership could tip in favor of the other established auto brands as they scramble to enter the small pickup market. And low cost of ownership is key to Slate's reservation...
IMO the wild card is how long it will take Slate to become profitable vs. the competition. Two data points (AI quality):
Tesla achieved its first profitable quarter in 2013, a decade after its founding.
Ford is currently losing money on each F-150 Lightning it sells.
Just because Slate may...
I chatted with Slate recently and asked about the on-board level 2 charging current draw; was told that they are still testing, but expect it to be about 30A at 240V. Granted, not as fast as you mention, but likely okay for me.
Note that the Slate Truck comes with the cord and capability to use a 120V wall outlet for Level 1 charging or a 240V outlet for Level 2 charging (see link): Slate Charging
So it seems that installing a 240V charging outlet if you don't already have one is all that you would need.
I'm...
