  1. Low power mode

I don't know, that might not even apply to slate. Turn the AC off manually, don't roll down the windows, drag will consume more than AC unless you are at low speed. Driving modes? Don't think slate is going to have anything like sport and eco modes. Many here would probably oppose it as a "nanny...
  2. Dear Slate - you need to show these things before I'll buy

Yeah, Hawaii, Alaska probably won't get the tour anyway, due to the logistics of it alone. Kind of wondering if they might skip some states like Montana where there may be a legit need for AWD.
  3. Slate makes the cover of Car & Driver magazine!

I don't think Slate's model is going to involve a lot of redesign and new parts in newer models. Keeping with their philosophy, slate 2.0 or their next different model will probably use like 80% the same parts, they will try to stay backwards compatible, and only change what they have to. Those...
  4. how many 2 door pickups of any kind are sold each year?

OK, it looks like Ford does have 1 model of 2 door F-150, the local dealer has 3 total, and they start at over $40k. Sure they tow more than slate, but get only 19 mpg city even without towing. Dealers probably only even stock them for when a business buyer insists on it. The 2 that come to just...
  5. Dear Slate - you need to show these things before I'll buy

From an EV site So it looks like depending on the state, Slate may have to dance through a bunch of loopholes to even have someone there to talk about the truck, like at the events, or later do test drives. I think Slate is getting around the service part with a 3rd party service partner, but I...
  6. how many 2 door pickups of any kind are sold each year?

The market is small because they aren't being produced. There are plenty of fleet cases for example that have gone to 4 door purely because of availability. I see work trucks on the freeway with ladders and stuff on the back, and a solo driver. If it's a newer truck, it's 4 doors.
  7. Wouldn't it be awesome to get the EV credit now?

But you likely have to use the credit this year I would think, Maybe you could manage to have a vehicle ordered in September and take delivery in January and convince the IRS to accept it, but I doubt they would go for over a year between.
  8. Slate poaches Tesla engineering manager

This also may not have been so much poaching, as a voluntary move on both sides. Tesla may be cutting back, and he left rather than he or someone else getting cut from the team. I am kind of surprised there isn't a non-compete clause getting in the way, but those really should provide for...
  9. Dear Slate - you need to show these things before I'll buy

The issue is state laws and their definition of "car dealer" Car dealerships have to get licenses from the state they operate in, and many states have laws banning manufacturers operating as dealerships, owning dealerships, etc. Some states allow it if there are no dealerships, and some allow...
  10. Wouldn't it be awesome to get the EV credit now?

Yes this change is new, based on what the IRS is saying on their website. The bill that changed things said you had to take delivery by September 30, now the IRS is saying having a binding contract and a down payment made by that date works. The vehicle does have to be "placed in service" to...
  11. Dear Slate - you need to show these things before I'll buy

Yeah, at first all that was mentioned was direct sales, but recently there has been mention of a dealer chain, so not sure what's up with that. Also, I think all those chains are used car dealers, do states require a different dealer license for new cars? That might complicate that idea

Wrap kits easily, it's just sheeting cut to a pattern, the pattern might change with later versions, but real cheap to cut the past pattern. Something big and complicated like the SUV kit might be the first to go, but as long as they can make a profit on it and there is enough demand?
  13. Articles and Videos of Interest That Don't Merit Their Own Threads

Telo also seems to be planning on starting with real low volume, so low that I doubt you'd be able to get your hands on one for several extra years.
  14. Slate poaches Tesla engineering manager

Hard sell for a manufacturer to do the engineering work for it. Yes ideally there would be a connector behind the bumper that connects up the lights and the "braking" system as trailer brakes that actually uses the regenerative braking, and your phone up in the RV would tell you when the battery...
  15. Wouldn't it be awesome to get the EV credit now?

As far as everything I've seen posted, everyone's been saying you currently have to take delivery before the deadline to get the credit.
  16. Slate makes the cover of Car & Driver magazine!

But that's what is kind of implied in some replies, that they just need to sell enough cheap then make money on accessories, which I don't think would work anyway
  17. Slate poaches Tesla engineering manager

If it charges using regenerative braking, only when braking is needed, that would make sense, otherwise charging all the time from the wheels, or charging off the RV's electrical system would only cost you more in gas for the RV, at a rate that doesn't make sense to use. Part of the problem...
  18. Slate makes the cover of Car & Driver magazine!

Well, with over 100k reservations the first 2 weeks, they really just need to keep the price low enough that enough of those convert to take up the production, and a bit lower to leave some unsatisfied demand to keep people talking. I don't expect them to treat the truck as a loss leader and...
  19. Slate makes the cover of Car & Driver magazine!

The article says the whole kit will likely be around $4k (whoops, 4 figures)
  20. Dear Slate - you need to show these things before I'll buy

Some states don't allow direct sales at all, some only if they are not competing with dealers selling the same vehicles, and some have carved out an allowance only for Tesla. Yes Indiana is one of them, they passed al law in 2017 blocking direct sales, but allowed an exclusion for "...
