  1. Slate announces Tesla supercharger access + 4,000 service / repair shops RepairPal partnership!

I see 4 independent shops shown, I've never been to any of them. If I choose EV repair, 2 go away, the other 2 are a chain of 2 as far as I know. Most work the Slates will need will be going in for probably won't be "EV" work, instead they will be installing accessories and basic car work...
  2. How adventurous are you going to be orderiing your Slate?

The thing is when you calculate the cost of those leases, that ~3k down, works out to 125 a month on a 2 year lease, and they are closed end leases, where at the end you turn the car in, and pay for any excess mileage or wear. No buy out option. Sure it's fine for people who like to always have...
  3. Motor Trend: Slate Talks about the Truck’s Style, Safety, and a Front End You Can Design

With any snow, and most vehicles, after parking you will need to clear the lights and windows before driving. Where the light type would make a difference is buildup while driving. That is where the aerodynamic custom to the car type lamps would have an advantage. I think with Slate's recessed...
  4. Motor Trend: Slate Talks about the Truck’s Style, Safety, and a Front End You Can Design

On lights getting packed with snow, it varies depending on the storm. We don't get much snow where I live, but there was one storm some years ago, when I left for work, driving west, street lights were not visible, packed with snow. The older non-LED ones may have been worse, because when dry...
  5. How adventurous are you going to be orderiing your Slate?

With leasing, most EV leases on affordable models seem to be real short, like 2 year closed end leases, and you are still putting 3k down, plus taxes registration and fees. The math just doesn't seem to work for me, as someone who keeps a car 10 years. I am hoping to have most of the purchase...
  6. Slate SF Bay Event - Hollister, CA - Swank Farms Fall Experience (& Photos Update)

OK, that seems like it would work out, the smaller pack leaves some empty space, with LFP they could still fit 150 miles worth of battery, but 240 miles just is too big of a pack.
  7. How adventurous are you going to be orderiing your Slate?

If I've had a test drive next summer as planned, and my finances allow, and nothing else changes, I'll buy as soon as possible. I don't know how well that strategy will work. While there may be a number of cancelled reservations, in the first few weeks, they had over 100k reservations. The...
  8. Slate SF Bay Event - Hollister, CA - Swank Farms Fall Experience (& Photos Update)

How would they get longer range out of LPF? Lower cost yes, but the tradeoff is lower energy density, so they would need a physically larger and heavier pack to even match the NMC range.
  9. Slate SF Bay Event - Hollister, CA - Swank Farms Fall Experience (& Photos Update)

Much less of that should be involved with a battery change than would be for other vehicles. Sure they have to do some testing, but battery packs have already been tested separately, they don't have to reinvent the wheel.
  10. 2026 Nissan Leaf price will start at 25,360?

I noted way back that the tax credit was an incentive for high priced vehicles. The issue is it's a non-refundable credit, so it can only reduce your tax liability, sure it means you get a tax refund, but only what you had withheld. To reach $7500 in taxes, with the standard deduction, and no...

Looks like glow in the dark wraps do exist
  12. Slate SF Bay Event - Hollister, CA - Swank Farms Fall Experience (& Photos Update)

It's an EV, they can relatively easily change battery tech before delivery. They just may have to change some settings in the battery management. It's not like changing almost anything on an ICEV where the whole design of the vehicle has to be reconsidered. With the current flux in other...
  13. EVs are more reliable than ICEVs..... GO!

I think they are going with a standardized lamp, from the photos it's smaller than the 7 inch H6006 that appears to be a replacement for 60-80 year old cars. It is shielded compared to many car and SUV lights now, and probably not need to be replaced much.
  14. Los Angeles event now has details

I'm just guessing being at a trunk or treat event at a park, it's going to be a crowded mess with a bunch of costumed kids even without the truck being there to look at. I can imagine they go with an orange and black jack-o-lantern wrap, themed light covers, etc, stuff I've thought would work...
  15. EVs are more reliable than ICEVs..... GO!

I don't think you can count on any modern vehicle to be repairable for eternity. You've got to be able to get parts. If the engine, or transmission, or even something like the ECU goes out, you need to either be able to get it from the dealer, aftermarket, or a junkyard. Same even if you need to...
  16. Los Angeles event now has details

So, it's a 1 day event, Halloween night... It's a full hour and a half drive one way for me, if there is no traffic, so I'll probably be waiting for another event. If this was in the day, on a weekend, and somewhere that wasn't likely to be crowded like this will, with many people who won't even...
  17. Don't Baby Your EV, Hard Acceleration Extends Battery Life

It doesn't really say hard acceleration extends the life, it says real world driving does. Lab test slow charge and discharge is worse than the real world pulses that occur with real driving, stop and go traffic, etc. So many drivers are getting more lifetime miles out of batteries than expected.
  18. If the Slate PU came only as an ICE, I would buy one.

The issue here is those percentages are not reliability ratings. The percentages are a breakdown of calls that were taken. Of EV calls, 18% were drivetrain related. Of ICEV calls 10% were taken. This does not indicate that EVs have more drivetrain calls than ICEV, because it does not take into...
  19. Japanese Car Designer Analyzes the Slate Truck (English Autodub Available)

I think it's mainly that both pickup trucks and cars are being optimized for aerodynamics. That's why many cars are creeping towards the look of the tesla, and most SUVs look pretty much the same. This may be a downside to the Slate's retro look, but for in town driving, it shouldn't make much...
