The biggest thing holding Slate back will be many people overstating their needs and value of their wants to themselves. Before kids, and in northern Wisconsin, my primary car for a few years was a Miata. 100% would recommend, and 100% would do again.
Even as a primary car, let alone a...
That's extra engineering development time and cost, also meaning extra time to market, plus extra material cost and weight, and extra assembly time. Not only is the market niche that will ever even consider flat towing ability very small, but those customers won't even not-buy the Slate merely...
If the subscription is for the types of things people already pay subscriptions for, that might make sense even if a bit redundant.
But if it's to integrate with the common apps I already have for free or already pay a subscription for, that's a hard pass... Not just pass on the subscription...
Current thoughts:
- Pickup for less weight.
- Standard battery for less weight.
- Wrap for protecting plastic from UV. ('Best of the Zest')
- Lowered for sportier springs.
- 20's for sportier tires. (White)
- Center console for an inboard armrest. (white from doors)
- Rubber floor and/or mat for...
That does look great! However, I had been picturing it leaning into the retro-rad (radtro?) theme with box flares... Because box flares make everything awesomer.
Take off the badges and the average consumer wouldn't be able to tell which is the Ford, and which is the Hyundai Santa Cruz. Amorphous, generic, and derivative. :headbang:

That could work, but to truly be the 'full' open air experience...
I also only need 3 positions: Closed, vented, and removed. Removal should be accomplished with no tools and in only a few seconds. I've also never felt the need to run a sunroof only partially vented or opened... So if the...
Not having to stop for 1 additional hour (unhook, recharge, rehook) every 1.5 hours of driving would be WELL worth whatever that cost difference might be. Going from a 20 to a 36 gallon tank was game changing. Even if it was just as easy (no unhooking) and quick (5-10min) to recharge, I can't...
The problem is not that it's too much of a stretch, but that it's not enough of a stretch.
Look at this crash simulation photo:
Notice how the bed buckles near the back of the cab in a frontal collision. It seems likely that the bed is included in the crumple zones in pickup form, and needs...
