Slate Truck in an Alternate Universe/Dimension

Of course this is all BS. It is an over-the-top take on a recurring theme: make the Slate more like the other EVs in the market, add more features, make it more expensive., etc. My view is that it is useful to be reminded of how difficult it will be for Slate to avoid increasing complexity and...

Will you be installing a Level 2 charger?

Also, when used as a dumb charger WIFI coverage is not required.

Great video! Note that 3M square feet this is twice the Slate facility.

Will you be installing a Level 2 charger?

You can also use a local Level 3 charging station as a backup. With the Tesla agreement there is a fair chance there is one relatively close. Another consideration is off-peak electric rates. I got a level 2 charger in order to save money in the long term.

Will you be installing a Level 2 charger?

A standard 30 amp RV outlet is 120 volts and therefore cannot support a Level 2 EV charger. All Level 2 chargers are 240 volts. With an adapter you could probably connect a Level 1 charger but would be limited to 12 amps.

Worst-case Scenario Range Estimates for each battery type (my calculations)

This probably does not scale well, but a year or so ago a friend of mine and a couple of his co-workers talked their facilities manager into installing 120V outlets, one for each EV driving employee. They provide their own Level 1 charger and are always charging while at work. The outlets are...

Slate CEO talks accessories, third party parts, Slate Marketplace (TechCrunch interview)

It is important to Slate to avoid any patent infringement issues. The CEO would be aware of any concerns. What this says is that Slate designed this vehicle to avoid them. For example, a famous Tesla patent that I am aware of is around the Octovalve. This may be part of the reason Slate does...

Slate CEO talks accessories, third party parts, Slate Marketplace (TechCrunch interview)

Interesting comment: not using any Tesla patents

Slate announces Tesla supercharger access + 4,000 service / repair shops RepairPal partnership!

My take was that the battery supplier comment was a negotiation tactic with SK On.

If the Slate PU came only as an ICE, I would buy one.

Monro & Associates has done many breakdowns of EDUs from Tesla and other OEMs. Given their relationship with Slate, I have to believe that the JJE EDM has been thoroughly vetted. Perhaps even improved if necessary.

Love the wheels and tires. Was there a lift kit or something to do this?

Jeff Bezos's $25,000 EV Truck Has One Fatal Flaw • Jeff Jablansky | MotoMan Podcast 006

I know that there is plenty of things that can go wrong, but this is a remarkable overall plan. Make the factory production line as simple as possible by building essentially one product. Have a potentially unlimited number of accessories available that are delivered with Amazon-caliber efficiency.

If the Slate PU came only as an ICE, I would buy one.

Slate is not just any EV either, it was designed from the start to be as simple as possible. It therefore over time should have low maintenance costs. And I always DIY any repair that I can. No front wheel drive eliminates 1/2 of the drive train parts. Plus there is therefore no front motor or...

Slate: The Everything Truck (Fortune Interview)

This is a very helpful article to understand the costs of EV versus ICE vehicles. The one comment I have is that is does not discuss off-peak rates that many utilities offer. I always charge at off-peak hours, and I suggest anyone considering an EV check their local rates.

Jeff Bezos's $25,000 EV Truck Has One Fatal Flaw • Jeff Jablansky | MotoMan Podcast 006

The beetle was rear wheel drive with the engine mounted directly over the rear wheels. Sound familiar? It drove through snow better than you would expect for a car that size. And if you had a problem, it was light enough that you could just get a couple of your buddies to help push it out...

New Apartment Complex construction underway in Warsaw for future Slate employees!

Here is a broader drawing of this building. Note the outside parking. I have been looking for effective ways to support EV charging in apartment complexes. This is one idea. Assumptions: - Average driver does 13,596 miles/year, 1,133 miles/month, 37 miles/day. - Per the website, Slate...

Articles and Videos of Interest That Don't Merit Their Own Threads

Slate has clearly had its eye on the fleet market from the beginning. Remember the wraps such as "Witch on Demand", "Feline Therapist" and "CryShare". I can imagine Slate collocating an accessory shop with the factory to apply the wraps and any other accessories required for a fleet order. It...
