    Need to pivot to LFP

They likely wouldn't be able to get 84kwh of LFP in the same pack they have 84kwh of NMC, but they could probably get 60-70kwh. They could definitely do 54kwh of LFP, so the two batteries are two different chemistries, but I'm guessing it ends up cheaper/simpler to focus on one chemistry at a...

    AWD! Please!

This Tires are absolutely everything. That's why my first mod will be a second set of wheels with snow tires. (I'm currently getting blasted with lake effect snow)

    AWD! Please!

The Tacoma TRD Offroad had an electric locker (not LSD, but a nice helical quaife style does pretty well in snow too[what I have in my mr2, I would rate 2wd with LSD to be almost as good as AWD with open diffs]). From the factory, you can only use it in 4lo, but a little wiring makes it work...

Q&A with CEO Chris Barman (Dec 16, 2025). Slateforums gets a shout out 🙌

After I received this answer, I had asked a followup question: " Thank you for your response! Would it be safe to say that the Slate's door handles won't require firmware updates? Am I going to get locked inside and die in a fire to shave off .0001 of drag coefficient? Thanks for your time, we...

    AWD! Please!

Ok fine, I'll pick a fight 2wd with a locker > awd with open diffs Gimme a locker option slate

    AWD! Please!

I'm a long time automotive forum veteran, so I know better to than to wade into any argument about whether or not you *need* AWD. Everyone's use case is different, and no one will change anyone's mind about it. (I live in one of the snowiest areas of the country, and there's only rare occasions...

Slate Mobile App (UX / UI - My Concept)

They've already shown that the backup camera feed will be in the instrument cluster. They've also claimed no onboard wireless connection, no internet, no bluetooth, no gps. When you connect a device, it will be via usb c.

Fused 12 VDC access in the dash would be nice.

Every time a manufacturer tries to minimize the 12v battery size, it becomes an issue. The high voltage contactors take more amperage than you think. Not as much as a starter motor, but enough that it's worthwhile keeping a larger battery. I learned long ago that you can't have too big of a...

Fused 12 VDC access in the dash would be nice.

There's been electric vehicles that try to operate without a 12v battery by directly powering accessories from the DC-DC converter, but typically you want a separate power source to turn on the computers and such without having the high voltage on. Using a regular 12v car battery gives a certain...

Slate app - free or subscription?

I had posted this elsewhere, but Slate is claiming no subscriptions, at least implying that the app is free.

Video: Slate SUV top rear glass hinge flips up + cargo area room / size (relative to hockey bag)

"pre-conditioning" means two different things in the EV world. That term gets used in place of "remote starting" where you turn the car on to get the HVAC working before you get in. That *appears* to be able to be done with the key fob. The other way "pre-conditioning" is used is when an EV is...

Dogs inside a single cab truck

I have had a 70lb coonhound ride in the passenger seat of my MR2. He seemed to love it, but that's absolutely something that's going to vary dog to dog. Side note, I have removed the passenger seat for more cargo space before.

    I asked Slate about V2L, V2H, and V2G.

They use the onboard charger, effectively operating in reverse. It's something inherently supported in the J3400 protocol, but needs to be supported on the vehicle end too.

    I asked Slate about V2L, V2H, and V2G.

I really want to know if the Slate will offer V2L via the NACS port with an adapter. The onboard charger is supposed to be 48 amps, so it could theoretically output the same amount, but even a single 110 outlet like the hyundai/kias would be useful. Example of what I'm talking about...

Fused 12 VDC access in the dash would be nice.

As long as Slate's logic for the DC/DC converter works, this isn't an issue you have to worry about. A few EVs (leaf and early hyundai/kias come to mind) have had issues with the DC/DC not kicking on when it should, which causes the 12v to drain until nothing works. But those issues seem to...

🔋 The Extended Battery Decision (Poll: Which battery option suits you best?)

There's another factor in the small/big battery decision for me that I just realized. New York has an EV tax credit still, and it's $1k for an EV with 40-199 miles of range, $2k for 200+ mi. So I would theoretically get a net $1k off whatever the big battery upgrade costs.

Will Slate Make Their Battery ‘Easily’ Replacable?

Yeah, I hope to be able to drive the factory battery into the absolute ground, and then replace it with an aftermarket one with newer or at least cheaper battery tech.

When do you think reservations will convert to orders?

Seeing/driving the finished product Price Price of extended battery Warranty Battery specs Charging specs How the ordering and delivery process is going to work And so on. You know, basically everything.
