Roger that. For those who are solar-deficient (gets dark in those decommissioned silo bunkers in KS or wherever - https://www.kctv5.com/video/2025/09/05/hidden-hills-inside-cold-war-era-missile-silo-up-sale-kansas/), would be harder to have such a tell (panels) to do the work.
Yeah...I had my Y2K moments. Unbeknownst to my 2 closest neighbors at the top of a mountain in AL, we had ALL prepped for what was a big NOTHING...I only figured it out when my next door neighbor was shooting full auto .223 next morning to celebrate New Year's Day, 2000! Only THEN did we...
Maybe they are rich Jeep folks? Jeeps have traditionally had horrible reliability and have a SERIOUS cult of die-hards. (CR rates Jeep Wrangler as a 30/100 overall with 36/100 road score, 2/5 reliability, and yet 4/5 owner satisfaction!)
Folks just like what they like, regardless of data...
I subscribe to Consumer Reports, and its amazing how much they hate Rivian's reliability (1/5), but say that customer satisfaction is 5/5. It's also amazing how 6 months changes things. Last year, CR only believed that Ridgeline and Maverick were reliable trucks.
Suddenly, Santa Cruz...
Not to be overly contrarian to the OP, but if the SHTF, unless I'm bunking with David (sodamo) in HI on his self-sufficient farm, I'm not counting on Slate as my bug-out vehicle...wrong use case.
I rented a 10’ Uhaul truck today to move a kid and it was completely analog…crank windows and locks and knobs and buttons with AM/FM radio on a GMC truck…I certainly thought about that being a Slate reality.
What I noticed vs my ridiculous tech-heavy X5…I like power mirrors and BSM and parking...
I tell the Mrs Doctors Do Little that this is much cheaper than golf. (Like, it ain't even close....ironically, we live on a golf course and I don't golf!)
The trailering thing is real though...it really limits what kind of weekend HD stuff I can do, given that my 6x10' trailer weighs about...
I wouldn’t want to depend on it as my daily driver as first gen EV…but my use case is luxury as it would be a second vehicle for me and more of a glorified open air golf cart that would be garaged most of the time…I would look carefully at the warranty service possibilities and being without a...
As my teenagers would say, "David is kind of GOATED". I haven't met him, but based on his posts, I'd tend to agree that he's living the dream. Well done, Sir.
I hear you…but there are several “known issues” that are 100% engineering integration issues. Sync 4.0 should be flawless…better not take a conference call that depends on it though. I thought Reddit was exaggerating. Frunk was complete boondoggle and emblematic of overall inability to...
Correct. It would not open electronically, from cab, manually and would only release via key fob. They replaced every single component and did a complete software reinstall…then simply gave up. Unacceptable for a vehicle with fewer than 30K miles. Especially when it worked when I bought it...
