How well is Slate Auto known outside this community?

I’ve asked many friends, associates, and colleagues if they ever heard of the Slate truck. Surprisingly, many of them are car buffs, and well acquainted with everything automotive. Based on my personal experience, only 2 out of ~ 20 people I queried ever heard of Slate. As a startup business...

🔋 The Extended Battery Decision (Poll: Which battery option suits you best?)

Anyone currently owning an ev on this thread can relate. There are always the unexpected little errands to the drug store, Lowe’s, Lotto 🙂, fast food , etc. and typical minor emergencies that pop up daily. If your driving habits are that like my spouse, you make separate trips instead of...

🔋 The Extended Battery Decision (Poll: Which battery option suits you best?)

Prediction- over half of the population who gets the standard range battery will deeply regret their decision. Once you live with the truck on a daily basis, it will just become an extra chore on your already long list. The $4.K you 'saved' on delivery day will long be forgotten; and you can't...

Is Slate's absence of telemetry an important distinctive feature?

I typically have good posture and proper seating position while driving. The other day I received a few warnings on my Lexus; "Sit Up, Pay Attention” and “Driver inattentive.” This is part of Toyota’s “driver safety sense”camera / IR detection system along with many other features. So yes, my...

Car Gurus Video: The Brilliant DIY Truck | 2027 Slate Truck Preview (Open-Air Version)

Just stumbled upon this from Car Gurus, which typically does excellent auto reviews. Nothing really new here, except that this blue open air design is quite eye-catching. Full video here:

This is why I’m buying a slate truck

Agreed, one thing Slate has done rather well is refocus the demand for EVs, at a time when other OEMs (e.g. Toyota) were pulling back and looking to Hybrid technology. The recent repeal of the EV tax incentive was evidence of this. Now it appears the rest of the auto industry is retooling...

Is FORD Preparing to Release a SLATE Competitor?

I think it's a safe bet that we'll see competitive small EV truck offerings from Tesla, Chevy, KIA, and Hyundai to challenge the Slate in the next couple of years. I'm sure that traditional automotive OEMs are monitoring Slate's rollout very closely and will be vying for a piece of the action...

    Body Panel Swap Potential

While I like the idea of the DIY aero body kits, it doesn't scream "performance" on a vehicle that does zero to 60 in 8 seconds. But I would still install it anyway as it looks cool and would help differentiate it from all other blank Slates. It does more for the looks than a simple wrap.

Is FORD Preparing to Release a SLATE Competitor?

On the other hand, if this rendering is accurate to any extent, I think it beats the Slate in the "looks" department.

Is FORD Preparing to Release a SLATE Competitor?

The new EV model for Ford will be architectured around cheaper and lower density LFP batteries. The good news is that battery production at Ford won't start until next year, meaning that Slate will still maintain a strategic advantage if deliveries can start late 2026 as promised. I think it...

FB Video: I don't think they have engineered the rear hatch/window yet.

I recall my first GM car - 1982 Chevy - had rear window defroster wires. Earlier cars had that noisy fan that never worked well 🙂.

FB Video: I don't think they have engineered the rear hatch/window yet.

Not trying to oversimplify the hinge mechanism, but I think it would be fairly straightforward to install “spring loaded hinges” that can lift the glass panel automatically when the glass is unlatched. The rear glass would also need defrosting wires embedded inside, so there needs to be a...

Here you go. The rear glass tilts up and out of the way in this video! TFL now.

FB Video: I don't think they have engineered the rear hatch/window yet.

Agreed, that was my reaction as well. How can you load large objects in the rear SUV configuration with that fixed glass panel just waiting to get smashed. Makes no sense to me. Don't think it's too complex to engineer a hinge mechanism design with a strut to lift that glass out of the way...
