The CA DMV website finally decided to work. If the Slate is required to be registered as a truck, this is possibly what registration fees might be here. Hopefully they can find some kind of loophole so it can qualify for the Automobile registration.
The registration alone isn't too bad here in CA, but all the other taxes and fees are kinda stupid! I think my county is lower tax, and I'm in an incorporated are too. This is assuming the Slate will be able to be registered as an Automobile. If it's considered a truck, it will have to be...
Never realized these don't have carpet/mats in them. This is even more like my 1979 Dodge W150! My Dodge never had carpeting in it, no radio, crank windows, and is 2 doors(bench seat). This continues to be a modern EV, short-bed version on my truck, and I'm all for it!
While it would be nice to do a retrofit, I doubt it will happen. I have worked on high voltage (Kalmar Ottawa T2E, 440V with up to 5 batteries in parallel) and have familiarity with it, most people don't, and will be more likely to zap themselves. This is also assuming the front end has enough...
I'm curious to see how this will play out for registration. Here in CA, any truck is given commercial plates. My 1979 Dodge W150 isn't used for any commercial work, but still has commercial plates. Same with anything like an old Mitsubishi Mighty Max, or a Maverick. I'm interested in seeing how...
"Why buy a Slate, just get a Maverick!"
I've been a mechanic since 2011, working on both automotive and commercial diesel, and I refuse to buy any Ford product. This is part of the reason. The other part is that modern Ford products are absolute trash to work on.
I don't know a whole lot about the whole federal incentive, but why would the LFP batteries disqualify it? I've never owned any EV, so a Slate would be my first.
I'd lower mine. To me, it looks a little cooler, and the most I'm going to have in it is 10 or 20- 40lb bags of wood pellets. Plus in my head it may get better range due to less wind resistance. It's also going to replace my 2020 Honda Civic, which is my current daily driver, and that has no...
Ass. I'm gonna be hauling ass.
In all seriousness, the most I'm probably going to haul is 10-20 bags of wood pellets. I have a wood pellet stove to heat my house, and each bag is 40lbs. My 2020 Civic can haul 10 of them up CA18 just fine, and my 1979 W150 can haul 2000lbs, but the Slate would...
I want to see if Slate happens to be at the LA Auto show later this year. If they are, I'd love to play around with it, see how it feels. The ride shouldn't be any worse than my 1979 Dodge W150, which has leaf springs all around and 31" BFG KO2s. Either way, I want to drive it before buying it...
I don't have any pictures of it, but my first car was a 1977 Datsun 280Z. It had a 4 speed manual, factory AC(didn't work), and no power anything. It definitely was a fun car!
Something I was thinking about recently was maybe having an option for the pickups to have the 80s style roll Bar/light bar. I know I want one for my truck(1979 Dodge W150 Power Wagon), and it would be cool to have one on a Slate. Maybe not have the old school 6" round KC Hilites on the top, but...
I just noticed this the other day. I think Slate employees really are on this forum. Seems like every few days something changes(for the better) on there. I'm all for it!
