With a 1/4 wave vertical antenna, you want the shield of the coax at the antenna end connected to the ground and not floating. That forms the ground plane. If you attached the antenna to the steel chassis, sure that would work, but not sure how you arrange the antenna itself. RF does not use the...
Since you still have not received an answer, and I am not interested in plowing through 10 pages of comments on the radio thread:
The best option would be a roof mounted fin antenna with a preamplifier built-in, but is the most complicated install. They probably need a ground plane, as they were...
Dream car? Aston Martin DB11 V12. Practical? No. Affordable? NO! Maintainable? Are you kidding? Head turning fun to drive? Oh YEA!
Which would be why I am on the list for a Slate... I think it will at least be a head turner.
I want a inexpensive, low maintenance, simple transporter that is compact and easy to drive around and park. That it is a mini-truck is a bonus. The $20k price is what got me to get onboard, at $30k I will have to think about it more. The devil is in the details though. It needs to be...
I think there are a few cell phones that will receive FM, but I have never seen a phone that would receive AM. That said, due to the lack of a decent antenna for those frequency bands, reception would be poor anyway. Your best bet would be to buy a portable AM/FM radio to see if it would work...
Unfortunately the thread author is correct in that electric vehicles are notorious for RF interference. Even Tesla cars do not have AM radios in them due to the RFI. There have been congressional hearings regarding eliminating AM radios in cars and the potential impact to safety messages not...
Not having owned a EV, that makes sense now. I had a Hyundai Ionic PIH, but it was bought back after the dealer couldn't fix what was wrong with the engine code faults.
I have never understood the need for a 12v battery, why not just use a DC-DC converter to get the system 12v from the HV battery, unless it is required for safety in case the DC-DC converter fails the lights would still work. Redundant DC-DC converters would be better than having a 12v battery...
I agree. More 'reviews' of non-production vehicles is of little value to anyone. They may as well go attend a Slate event and talk up whatever strikes their fancy from that.
The Hella headlamps are great but illegal at 80/100w for road use in the USA though. Not that that stopped me :) . The hazard for modern vehicles with electronic switching circuits is they are not rated for the higher currents. A standard 55w lamp draws about 4A each, a 100w lamp draws 7.4A...
I went today. They had a nice, fun display! The Slate was as I expected, size interior, ect. I wish we were allowed to get inside one. They had the one above, plus a blank Slate with a bed cover on it. The Blank Slate apparently didn't have any interior in it according to what I was told -...
My takeaway was Jay was impressed with the American made price, but not so much with the NVR (noise, vibration, and roughness) but expecting it to improve before production
I would not be buying a new vehicle, none of them meet my needs for simple, cheap grocery hauler. I have other vehicles that meet my heavy haul and comfortable long trip requirements.
Now if only I could figure out a insurance solution that didn't penalize me for having a fleet where all are...
For me, the EV aspect of the vehicle is not that important. A basic, easy to maintain, low cost of ownership vehicle is my priority. I am so tired of vehicles that are unrepairable after a few years because the specialized parts and modules are no longer available, or are not worth the cost to...
