That's the thing with the argument that it HAS to have awd. It wasn't that long ago that nearly all consumer vehicles were rwd, and trucks stayed that way longer than cars. Slate should handle far better than those old trucks did unloaded, because they were designed to be carrying a load, and all the vehicle weight was in the front. That's why people drove around with sand bags and stuff in the bed. Slate has a lot of the weight near the rear axle, and low.
