Didn't want to start a new thread. Ran across this article from last month. Don't recall seeing it posted on the forum.

Sometimes the comments in articles are better than the article itself. My favorite...

"As others have said, this car never made sense from the get go. It was too expensive, and too stripped down compared to other offerings on the market.
It takes a special kind of weirdo to pay more than competitors to get a lot less. If this was going to be something killer in specs it'd be one thing, but they were talking about a 150 mile range, 2WD, and basically nothing in it.
Frankly I don't see how this company hasn't folded. Their whole market approach failed."

And there you have it, folks. We're all weirdos here. The Internet has passed judgement.

Competitors?

For my purposes there aren't any.

Weird.

1. How are they convinced that the car has failed in the market and that the company shouldn't have folded? It hasn't gone up for sale yet!

There's some ongoing collective hallucination that Slate has been vaporware for years and increased in price, rather than having been announced roughly (still under?) 1 year ago and having announced no delays. Or price increases. They acknowledged the end of a Federal incentive and kept their price projection roughly the same.

2. "Pay more for less" is not such a strange idea. The Amazon Kindle Fire tablet is offered as a cheaper version with ads or a more expensive version without ads (at least, on the lockscreen - I'm sure there are still ads on the device).

I think in general, people will pay at least a little extra for "no BS". The Slate doesn't impose the same lack of privacy, the same cognitive load of noise, subscriptions, and networking that other modern vehicles have.

Even cars themselves - why would you want one of those expensive and janky horseless carriages that's slower than a horse and can't steer itself? Because it's not an entire animal to manage. There is less B(or rather, H)S!

When I was young I thought it only made sense to buy grocery in bulk and stuff my fridge/pantry. Then I met someone from another culture who only bought fresh and enough to last two to three days. It was mind boggling but I grew to embrace the concept. Slate is kinda like that. Simplicity is valuable to the right folks.

It is ok to be a weirdo. I have been called worse. 😁
