Video of Michigan Science Center for EV demos, exhibits at Cars & Coffee event

Comments from Ford, Nissian, STEM demo, Slate (if you're just interested in Slate interview, it's at 14:18) with CEO Chris Barman. Not much new we haven't read/watched/heard already. and finally, Detroit Auto Show discussion on EV's, focus to get young engaged with EV's and automotive in general. The comments on YT are the usual mix of mostly anti EV and tin hat comments.

Out of Balance: Is the Slate the New Model A? https://www.hemmings.com/stories/out-of-balance-is-the-slate-the-new-model-a/

Reporter got a few things off, mentioning 150 to 200 miles of range instead of 240 for the extended battery.
Additional seats provide total of 5, not 4. Although from how thin that middle seat looks, wouldn’t blame folks for thinking this would be a 4 seater configuration.

“Slate is targeting the low end of the pickup market, a segment all but abandoned in recent years. The bare-bones Slate brings to mind the likes of the Ford Courier and Chevy LUV. Better yet, it reminds me of a Ford Model A pickup. Simple, utilitarian and universally understood by anyone with any driving experience whatsoever who got behind the wheel, the Model A transformed Ford and the American driving public at large. The Slate has that potential.”

Took my family to the Slate event in San Francisco, the Slate rep and I were talking about the vehicle for awhile and could see their passion and professionalism about Slate. My wife isn’t a fan, and wants all the features of the modern car, but knows that I appreciate simple and compact vehicles that just need to get the job done.

Ford To Build New $30K Midsize Electric Pickup In Louisville Kentucky https://www.forbes.com/sites/samabu...dsize-electric-pickup-in-louisville-kentucky/

Universal EV Platform - $5 billion to retool Louisville Assembly Plant in 2026 for release in 2027.

“If Ford is actually able to execute on its plan, the first product from this platform could be the death knell for Slate. ”

First vehicle to be mid-size EV pickup truck at ~200 inches long.

“At the moment, Ford is saying the new electric truck will have a starting price of about $30,000, placing it right between the $28,145 starting price of a Maverick and the $33,350 entry point for the mid-size Ranger.“

It’s Not a Slate. Ford’s $30,000 Electric Pickup Truck Won’t Be Stripped Out
https://insideevs.com/news/768646/ford-ev-pickup-not-like-slate/

“"This is not going to be a stripped-down, old-school vehicle as a path to low cost," said Ford's EV chief Doug Field at an event announcing the truck today. He didn't elaborate on that point any further, but it's clear he's talking about the Slate here, a truck that makes a point of being back-to-basics.”

$30k will be the base trim the dealers don't order much of, and don't want to sell you. If it's the length of a maverick with the cab of a mid-size, it's got to either have a short hood and tiny frunk, or a real short bed, or both.
Slate has a maverick outline to compare with the slate on the home page. The maverick's hood seems to be about the same length as the slate, and the bed is smaller than slate's. That "mid sized cab" has to come from somewhere.
A big part of the reason I'm interested in the slate is getting rid of the wasted space of the back seat. I've maybe had family in the back seat of my versa a couple of dozen times as a guess in 10+ years, and any one of those times: if I didn't have a back seat, we could have taken someone else's car.
