I reached out and was told it will have electric power steering. I explicitly asked whether it was EPS or hydraulic, so here’s hoping it’s full EPS
It’s also pretty much a requirement. The low voltage system is what does all the safety checks before closing the contactors and enabling high voltage. It’s what does the handshake for charging, and in the event that a crash occurs, is what closes the contactors, disabling the HV system and then...
Now that I think about it, I'm hopeful that we'll be able to completely replace the phone dock with a doulbe DIN headunit. If you option the tablet mount in the Slate Maker, it removes the phone mount. If the double DIN headunit can open the Slate app, maybe it can be centered over the HVAC knobs?
Thanks for the additional writeup and perspective!
Power mirrors would be an option I'd spring for. It's not a deal breaker, but there are definitely times when I want to aim the mirror down to see how close I am when parallel parking, etc. 95% of the time it's a "set it and forget it" thing...
Nice! Couldn't make it out this week, but will go to the Olympia one this weekend. I'm curious of your overall impression of the interior (seats, steering wheel, dash, etc.) Some of the promo stuff they've shown has made it look like the flip up cubby doors on the dash are super flimsy, but I've...
This will 100% be the route I take, but the head unit seems slightly too far away from the driver for my liking. I'd prefer if it was centered over the HVAC controls
Because what you said is asinine. You said you wouldn't trust Chinese made components to get your family down the road, yet are fine driving cars right now that are full of them, often critical components.
I think it's pretty straight forward. Drivetrain will likely be a non-issue for the lifetime of the vehicle. But things like body panels, mirrors, brake lights, bumpers, seats, door cards, window regulators, switches, etc are all designed to be repairable or replaced.
I don't even know where to begin. Where do you think the ECUs, harnesses, and sensors come from in your cars right now? Where do you think the internals of your transmission comes from? Or the case?
No one is accessing the cells, so no cells are going to be punctured. Pull the MSD and the voltage is isolated to the battery; once removed, you can remove all the spicy orange cabling you want, up to and including the pack.
This isn't rocket science, and it isn't as scary as you might think.
