    Body Panel Swap Potential

    After market 1950s body kit.

Open Air Mode Slate Pickup w/ Blue Wrap (from Rhode Island event showing)

Now I have to get a third Fiero? Maybe just shoehorn in the rear assembly, and put the battery in the center trany tube??? Be still my beating heart!

Open Air Mode Slate Pickup w/ Blue Wrap (from Rhode Island event showing)

IMHO wrecked and salvaged Slates will become a "thing" for this very reason. I am thinking aftermarket body panels to give it a more 50s look, perhaps bring back the "Woodie"?

I hope it has 2 inch receiver not for towing though

2 inch hitch is a must have, if only for just light towing and bike racks. Also fog lights, my eyes are not getting younger.

Canceling my reservation [LOCKED DUE TO POLITICS]

As a purely financial decision, you are right. However a vehicle purchase is rarely a purely financial decision. On the financial end, this is not a necessary purchase. I have a 7+ yo Model 3 that I am more that happy with (Elon not withstanding). The Slate will be my secondary vehicle used...

    An Observation on the Taillights

Regardless of Slate's reasoning; I hope they are true to their word about being DIY friendly. I look forward to pouring over the circuit diagram of the Slate and see for myself what is possible. After market and 3D printing will change the way people think about "tricking out this truck.

Wrapped Orange Slate SUV and Pickup (with white roofs) inside Slate's pre-production facility

Back to the 50s 2 tone "paint" job! Needs white wall tires.

    The Unofficial Slate food?

I'm old enough to remember the old BK ad; "Have it your way."

    Need FM Radio

Ya gotta expect a product like Slate to attract old nerds like me. I still have my HAM radio license. My dream was a 50s Chevy pick up with a jet starter as a motor. The dc to ac tec was not there to drive a reluctance motor. You got it right, I feel like I was born 50 years too early.

    Need FM Radio

That's the point, if in your phone already, you don't have to. However, my plan is to get a "Retro Radio" unit. (They look like the old push button radios, but the inside has AM/FM Bt and USB.) This will give it that 60s - 70s look. I've got a Moto g power and it certainly does have it. Use it...

Is there a 12v volt source in the frunk?

Spoke with a Slate rep at the Detroit event; Drain plug is coming, it also had a 12VDC outlet on the passenger side, Rep said they are working on 120 VAC outlet for that space. To me that would make it a work truck and not just a toy.

When will I get my Slate?

I will feel more positive when the pre-production models start to roll off the line. By that time there should be a clear picture as to what accessories will be offered and at what price.

Business Insider Article - who does the Slate appeal to? Which category are you?

I tap in to several categories, plus a few others; Hobby farmer (wish I had it this year, a lot of apples on my trees.), radio amateur (HAM), I will try to get my son to 3D print me some stuff, just waiting for the specks.

Air Suspension, Carplay, onboard cooler, double din radio, climate control, wi-fi, hands free liftgate, self driving, waffle maker...

The point is Slate doesn't have to do any of that. I'm an old DIY guy who loves electronics, and tinkering. All I want is the basic slate and I will take it from there. I already have a locking tool box from my old pick up that will fit in the bed of the Slate...I measured, win win.

    Need FM Radio

True, sometimes if you just download the FM radio app, you will discover that it is there.. Worth a try. I have a Chromebook with an SDR program, but no available driver for it! Frustration!

So many posts about, will you still buy without EV credit [WARNING: NO POLITICS]

The legacy auto makers are on the same path they were in the 70s. They had to deal with rising gas prices, poor quality manufacture, and growing competition from Japan. If you had a problem with your car and went to the dealer for warranty work, you were told that it was due to the government...

    Need FM Radio

Most cell phones already have an FM radio chip in them. I guess us old boomers pay more attention to things like that. To me the fun of a Slate will be finding ways to kluge things together and have them work. (Part of that DIY thing.) Hmm, maybe I'll build a reverb speaker for it.

Slate's Entire Marketing Campaign is Completely Wrong

I had similar thoughts about the marketing being a bit off. The vendors at Farmer Markets should probably be the target. Guys, like me who have a cabin in the woods or a hobby farm and miss ther Ford Ranger or Chevy S-10. My first thought seeing the Slate was where can I plug in my compressor...

Poll: Slate's second model - what do you think it will be?

If smart, the concentration needs to be production and ramp up. If popular, then add AWD and LFP chemistry. The puck up market is otherwise saturated with bigger options. Stay with your strength...add styling features like; bolt on panels to give it a 30s or 50s look. Maybe a bed extension?

So many posts about, will you still buy without EV credit [WARNING: NO POLITICS]

Yes! I have 6+ acres, an old farm house, with a solar generator. If I add 30 miles per day, I'll be running on sunshine. The Slate is the right size for this place. I have missed my Ford Ranger ever since the oil pump blew. Why not a side by side? A good SXS, electric is about the same price and...
