What kind of performance upgrades do you think will be available for the Slate?

Sorry, I was thinking those posts were related. Honestly, don't overthink it on both. Your thoughts on aspect ratio going down as width goes up keeping sidewall height within a limited desirable range is not wrong, but there is also no singular 'ideal' value. However, the best handling (or any...

What kind of performance upgrades do you think will be available for the Slate?

That hasn't actually been a thing for more than a quarter-century. Physics dictates that the (asphalt) 'performance' that comes with a 65 series sidewall, is low-performance. And beyond being slow, they'll tend to get tore-up when actually run hard. At some point there isn't enough sidewall, but...

What kind of performance upgrades do you think will be available for the Slate?

Taking crappy 245/65R17's off, and replacing them with similarly crappy 235/65R17's would be a significant cost for a negligible difference. It's actually a pretty good starting point and basis for comparison. Slate isn't going to be competitive enough in any class to be worth having a dedicated...

What kind of performance upgrades do you think will be available for the Slate?

I know I'm an outlier, but in addition to a lowered suspension, I only want a Slate if it's RWD. So no adding power through front motors for me. On the other hand, if a 200kw motor was a reasonably direct replacement... That would be very tempting. The standard pickup Slate with standard range...

    What's the Slate's maintenance like?

If you smell something burning, it's just my brain trying to wrap itself around this. o_O

What is Slate competing with for YOUR money?

How real comparisons are happening with things that 'are quite different' is kind of the point of this thread. Is there something more tangible you'd do if Slate, Aptera, and Telo all don't come home though? Paul Rodgers, SLATEchad, Dorbiman: The best way to stop an argument is to not take the...

What is Slate competing with for YOUR money?

There has been a ton of chatter and hand waving about Slate vs Maverick. But Maverick attracts customers from more than just the one market segment that the media (social and otherwise) compares it to. Slate is taking a similar yet different 'defining its own market' path. My own unusual cross...

    D

One word can have multiple meanings, and multiple words can have the same meaning. That's how you can have axles inside the axle on one axle, and axles with no axle on the other axle. Isn't English* grand? * And that's even before getting into the different Englishes.

I hate the dashboard!! (and I propose a redesign)

Exactly. I guess I should have finished that thought for anybody that didn't read the space needle thread. Yes, we got a conflicting report from another CSR, and determined through pics that it's electric and that at least one CSR was either misinformed or misunderstood.

    D

I realize this is an 'older' thread, as much as can be on this young site, but wanted to address it anyway. It's also a shame that the OP apparently decided to delete most of their post for some reason, because this is actually a good question worth discussing. I'm not sure if there was more to...

I hate the dashboard!! (and I propose a redesign)

I still don't recall seeing reasonable and rational arguments as to why the DIN mount centered below the HVAC controls, much like the Bluetooth speaker, is not an acceptable existing alternative. It keeps the head unit visible while encouraging the safer use of steering wheel audio controls...

I hate the dashboard!! (and I propose a redesign)

While it may be preferable from a radio-centric standpoint to have the cubby extend far enough to allow DIN centering, there may be other engineering decisions preventing such too. I would not assume that CSR's are privvy to all of the engineering rationale for even every visible decision...

I hate the dashboard!! (and I propose a redesign)

Despite being a bit of a Luddite myself, this all seems blown rather out or proportion. Steering wheel buttons and voice controls are way safer than head unit buttons. Both of our cars' infotainment systems have both touch screens and buttons. We only occasionally use the touch screens, and...

    What's the Slate's maintenance like?

Oh. Well, then. If YOU want it to... Regardless of what you want, others may find value otherwise. It is a public forum after all. Information about Slate truck maintenance" does not yet exist to find. The best anybody is going to get is some generalities about EV maintenance mixed...

Suspension Poll: Lifted, Lowered, or Standard Height?

Even the lowest factory suspension will probably have more clearance than my Green Bay winter beater Miata had, which is way more than enough for anything I'd throw at it here. This actually has a LOT of potential for really fun handling. My interest in Slate is predicated on them managing to...

    What's the Slate's maintenance like?

Let's be clear here though. Sure plenty of engines are capable of achieving unnecessarily (from a manufacturer perspective) high mileage... But all of that moving part longevity comes at a not insubstantial lifetime preventative maintenance cost. BMW has some of the neediest engines I've...

    Noise requirement?

Modern ICE cars can be nearly as quiet to pedestrians as EV's in many low speed circumstances, and even quieter than is being required of EV's despite the 'safety' reasons. Either ICE sounds are sufficiently safe and EV's shouldn't be required to be any louder than the quietest EV cars, and it...

Business Insider Article - who does the Slate appeal to? Which category are you?

Basically, those can all be grouped into the 2 main demographics I see for this... Those young enough to find the 80's vibes retro-cool and those old enough to find the 80's vibes nostalgic... Nicely book-ending the demographic with young kids in car seats, most of whom this would not be a great...

    Leak Proof Body???

That's certainly a valid concern. It may be less about preventing any water from getting in, than about preventing most water from getting in and making sure the rest has a desirable path out.
