Yeah, just wanted to throw that out there as a starting suggestion. There’s probably plenty of options out there that are beefier and more heat resistant than an iPad.
Could go with a dedicated automotive grade tablet. Police are using these for the most part and squad cars mostly sit in the sun with no cabin overheat protection between shifts.

Well, I admit, I’m probably a little biased after seeing the tri-motor Cybertruck go from a $70K estimate at reveal to $100K at delivery. We’ve already gone from under 20K to mid 20s for the estimate for the Slate, so I say
$30K at release.
No chance. 150 mi range will be $30K, long range will be $34K. I’ve followed EVs longer than I care to admit and that’s the unfortunate truth. But I’d love to be proven wrong as I do want one of these! If it’s $35K, which I don’t anticipate, I’ll just get a used Model 3 with more than twice the...
Tax credits won’t last and Slate will be $30K, just bet on that to avoid disappointment in the future. Even at $30K, we’re talking most affordable BEV on the market. Even a single motor RWD Model 3 is $35K right now WITH the tax credit. The Model 3 has a stereo and autopilot but the Slate has...
For now it’s worth nothing, and it certainly could remain that way. But if Slate really takes off and becomes super popular with diehard fans years down the road, those fans might pay a pretty penny for one of these. Who knows?
I’d say a copy of the original concept sketch means more than a sticker. Could be quite the collectors item someday if the company becomes really popular.
Basically what @Letas said. Aside from gas savings and customization (which are admittedly big things), this isn’t a vehicle that will be envied or bragged about. It’s made simple, to the point, and affordable. I highly doubt anyone will be wowed by the driving experience itself.
I’ve been burned by 3rd party accessories too many times to keep doing that. I’ll be buying OEM parts only. If they don’t offer something I want, it must not be all that important.
With EVs, it kind of depends. Will we be able to see the state of the battery? If the previous owner supercharged it to 100% everyday, then no. Not a chance. If they took care of it and charged to 80% from home everyday, then sure. Absolutely. Don’t know if Slate will offer a battery health test...
I wouldn’t go AWD on a Slate. That would probably be about $32K and get about 120 miles of range, unless they did a bigger battery easily pushing that to $35K. Now we’re nowhere near that magical $20K price.
People can lie on a poll, just like they can lie on the tracker. I’d only take into account those on the tracker thread that have reservation numbers. Quite a few are missing those.
