I have a '18 Model 3 RWD LR, I used the standard NEMA 5-15 plug for the first year and a half. That gave me 5 miles per hour of charge. I then discovered that I had 2 plugs on opposite phases. This allowed me to have a NEMA 6-15R plug (240VAC 15A) which gives me 11 miles/hr charge. I never...
Based on my Model 3; 7 year battery condition (100K Miles). Range 94% of original, Winter driving at 0°F 30 miles rang decrease per 100 miles. So I would expect that the Slate under the same conditions with the Standard battery would give you about 100 miles. Also keep in mind that the charging...
It's basic, it's electric. Yes a gas small pick up could be cheaper. But, my north Michigan cottage already has a solar generator. I can make electrons, I can't make gas. I already have a 7 yo Tesla, so I know range issues are mostly BS. Grew up and lived in Detroit all my life with most of the...
My sad tale; Love my '18 Model 3 RWD LR, wanted to give it to my wife and get a Cybertruck...years late, way over the promised price point, and de-featered (no tailgate ramp, no exoskeleton) and Elon gone political. Then Slate happened!
Depends on what's offered in the accessories department and, of course, cost of installation. Based on my skill level, battery pack and wrap wold have to be out of the shop. I insist on 100 mile reliable range, after 7 years and at 0°F with heater full blast, so I will opt for the larger pack...
IMHO wrecked and salvaged Slates will become a "thing" for this very reason. I am thinking aftermarket body panels to give it a more 50s look, perhaps bring back the "Woodie"?
As a purely financial decision, you are right. However a vehicle purchase is rarely a purely financial decision. On the financial end, this is not a necessary purchase. I have a 7+ yo Model 3 that I am more that happy with (Elon not withstanding). The Slate will be my secondary vehicle used...
Regardless of Slate's reasoning; I hope they are true to their word about being DIY friendly. I look forward to pouring over the circuit diagram of the Slate and see for myself what is possible. After market and 3D printing will change the way people think about "tricking out this truck.
Ya gotta expect a product like Slate to attract old nerds like me. I still have my HAM radio license. My dream was a 50s Chevy pick up with a jet starter as a motor. The dc to ac tec was not there to drive a reluctance motor. You got it right, I feel like I was born 50 years too early.
That's the point, if in your phone already, you don't have to. However, my plan is to get a "Retro Radio" unit. (They look like the old push button radios, but the inside has AM/FM Bt and USB.) This will give it that 60s - 70s look.
I've got a Moto g power and it certainly does have it. Use it...
Spoke with a Slate rep at the Detroit event; Drain plug is coming, it also had a 12VDC outlet on the passenger side, Rep said they are working on 120 VAC outlet for that space. To me that would make it a work truck and not just a toy.
I will feel more positive when the pre-production models start to roll off the line. By that time there should be a clear picture as to what accessories will be offered and at what price.
I tap in to several categories, plus a few others; Hobby farmer (wish I had it this year, a lot of apples on my trees.), radio amateur (HAM), I will try to get my son to 3D print me some stuff, just waiting for the specks.
The point is Slate doesn't have to do any of that. I'm an old DIY guy who loves electronics, and tinkering. All I want is the basic slate and I will take it from there. I already have a locking tool box from my old pick up that will fit in the bed of the Slate...I measured, win win.
