News: Slate exploring different battery supplier. SUV kit price to be $5000 range

My question would be how much redesign of the BMS would be required? Sodium Ion is looking like a viable and cost effective choice, but it is new and not very proven tech. I am sure you are looking at all the options. I just hope you can keep manufacture in the US...Michigan prefered.

    📊 Expected Out-The-Door price for a $25,000 Blank Slate

They probably did, but did,t say. I've learned not to assume too much. In fact since they started literally in Sandy Monroe's back room, I would expect no less. Living in the motor city I know just how cut throat the auto industry is and, in a way, am glad to see then keeping some things out of...

    This Is So Boring Now

How I endure. 1.) Take the $$$ for my Slate and put it in a CD, use the few bucks I make for a wrap, etc. 2.) Get my old car ready for sale, use the $$$ for extra goodies. 3.) Play with the maker...again. Sigh, yes, I went through the same thing with my Model 3 waiting for production to ramp up...

Were you first drawn to the Slate itself or the headline price?

HELP! I can't stop playing with the Maker. I'm actually more excited with this then I was with my Tesla.

    📊 Expected Out-The-Door price for a $25,000 Blank Slate

IMHO Slate should have started with a cost analysis and worked up from there. This should be what it costs Slate to push a blank out the door. And that should be less $$$ that the base purchase price without incentives. If they did that, they have wiggle room and (again IMHO) a bright future...

Article: "Slate Auto’s Sophomore Album Problem: What Comes Next?" -- what do you think?

It is way to early to be thinking about this, but...another possible future development would be more truck. A cab with a frame that allows for different beds like flat bed, drop side, even small dump, possibly working with a truck bed company. Many including me have compared Slate to a Ranger...

CNBC Video: Slate has struck a nerve with the industry and consumers, says Former Ford CEO Mark Fields

"Off the shelf" doesn't always mean in current production. In the auto world it is refining the manufacturing process, tooling, testing for safety compliance, and basic engineering. All of which is the expensive part of part development. If that is already done, than you just need to pound out...

For fun - Overall Size / Wheelbase of Slate truck compared to other vehicles

Slate is a gamble, but a good one. It does fill a niche between a smaller quad cab and a side by side/golf cart. How big is that niche? That is the question. Will it please everybody? No. The big truck guys (and gals) will not like it. But this has the potential to surprise. I was impressed with...

Tesla Model 3 started the same with the LR RWD and a space for the front motor.

🔋 The Extended Battery Decision (Poll: Which battery option suits you best?)

Many years ago when I did the deep-dive into EVs and continuing to today, weight affects range far less than wind resistance (drag). It is my wish that there was some other way to measure range. A battery less than one year old is not the same as one that is 2 to 5 years old or one that is 7+...

Article: "Slate Auto’s Sophomore Album Problem: What Comes Next?" -- what do you think?

Slate is going down a road traveled by few, why should they change? If successful, and I think they will be very successful, the most rational move would be a 2 motor version (AWD/4WD). This is just based on comments in the forums and on you tube. Then we have something for the ORV crowd. Keep...

Factory allowance/channels/tubes for running additional wires later (signal/power/fiber)

As a HAM radio operator, I am constantly wiring and re-wiring. My hope is that Slate publishes a (pdf) manual with wiring diagrams. I like to splice in a fuse block for extra hookups. A list of parts and suppliers (part # for Digi-Key, Amazon) Maybe offer plug in expansion harness? Also remember...

    Low power mode

Nanny mode is right! My Model 3 gets me there and rare are the times I've had to sweat it. I refuse to adjust my comfort and have adjusted my thinking. Outside temp 65F and above, range est is nearly spot on. Below that figure roughly -5 miles stated range for each 10 degrees F. Note; mine is...

Dear Slate - you need to show these things before I'll buy

I want to get my hands on a basic slate ASAP. Investment wise, this may or may not be a good or bad thing. In the unlikely event of a corporate fail, this design looks simple enough that I could manage to keep it going even without OEM support. Realistically, don't expect a solid price point...

Thread for posting battery breakthrough articles. Tech is changing rapidly.

Will you be installing a Level 2 charger?

Don't get locked in to the idea you need the fastest charging possible. Even if you have to spend a few bucks just to get an electrician to "have a look". If you have two plugs near each other that are on opposite phases, he could wire them up for 240 15A. A few years ago you could but a cord...

Will you be installing a Level 2 charger?

I may have posted something like this earlier; When I first got my Model 3, I lived for a year just using 120VAC 15A = charging speed of 5 miles/hr OK for everyday driving. I settled on a 240VAC 15A plug (The lowest level 2 you can get) Charging rate is 11 miles/hr (over night charging of 10...
