I think what you are talking about is a mounting adapter. What’s also needed is a wiring harness for power, speakers, radio antenna, and GPS antenna. Crutchfield does a great job offering head units and harnesses specific to car wiring, but the wiring needs to be there in the first place. And...
I like your image but think it’s a little too long for what Slate might do. I doubt the bed will get longer than what they have now so the C pillar will have the same relationship to the rear door as the current B pillar does to the front door.
I think the sole purpose of the fob is to lock/unlock the doors/rear window and lock/unlock the transmission. The screw driver is a little bit ridiculous…if you need to change out a panel, use a real tool.
Slate did their research. For daily driving around town, the standard range should be fine. It’s meant to be charged overnight at home while the NACS gives access to the Tesla Supercharger network if needed.
I agree. The second car market is where this vehicle will shine when that second car is just something low cost (of operation) to get from A to B. The U.S. household average is 1.5 cars and this seems like the perfect “.5” car to me at half the price of an average car.
I have seen very little about the dash cluster other than a few glimpses of something behind the wheel. With a standard back up camera and “no screens”, how will the camera present an image to the driver? I’m assuming this will be on some sort of screen that will serve as the virtual...
Get the Weekender and throw a lightweight RTT on top of the roof rack. Bring along a cheap diesel heater to stay warm. Use the bed space for a fridge and outdoor kitchen. If deleting one or both rear seats, an interior cot like I have in my FJ might work.
I’m sure they will offer a slick BT amplified speaker setup, but don’t expect more than three speakers and definitely nothing in the doors. Some enterprising company is going to offer an audio system package for the SUV that uses the roll cage for mounting speakers in back.
I never leave my phone in my vehicle and don’t expect that to change if I used a tablet as I would not want to leave it in the Slate. That means lugging a tablet around with me when I park…no thanks. I use my phone for navigation/music in my FJ now and it works just fine. I weaned myself off...
I asked ChatGPT and got this result:
“1. Battery Size and Charging Speed Needs
Smaller EVs typically have smaller battery packs (e.g., 30–50 kWh vs. 70–100+ kWh in larger EVs).
These smaller packs don’t take as long to charge, even on 400V systems, so the time-saving benefit of 800V fast...
I’m a DIY wrencher but I think most people aren’t….especially if they want to sell 140K units a year. The value-add service of pre-modifying could be fairly high margin but that’s only if people bite on the higher price tag. At what point is Slate going to reveal the numbers?
I worry about how that thing will do in a frontal collision. Also I believe “cabover” requires the front wheels to be behind the driver’s legs. Not sure the Telo qualities.
This is a very realistic concern. I don’t think that people will “transform” the vehicle on a regular basis…they will mod once and then most likely leave it in the transformed state. So unless the SUV pack is very reasonably priced, the target market for this thing shrinks considerably. Perhaps...
See now we are getting something that looks a bit like an electric VW T3 Doka. Not a bad idea! Fully enclose it, add a second motor, and you have an electric Syncro.
