  1. Plywood 4x8 fit / loaded into Slate truck bed (video)

Most of that stuff is planned to be released early next year, firmer pricing, accessory pricing, etc. Audio equipment will probably be mostly 3rd party, they may have some speakers rebranded as Slate, but specs are going to be completely up to what you choose. Probably some of the audio...
  2. Aptera-style solar panels in SUV option.

The problem is the math doesn't work. You need more surface area than a vehicle has to generate enough power through the day to run the vehicle, unless it's a lightweight "motorcycle" like aptera. You are better off putting in a solar carport.
  3. The Hypothetical Vehicle I Would Chose Over The Slate

There is a reason you've never heard of it, it's just AI generated images and content thrown up on a website in an attempt to get attention and get some ad revenue eventually.
  4. New Toyota Hilux: This Is Toyota's First Electric Pickup Truck

Those big hoods: driving my car, next to unlifted trucks, the top of the hood is above my head. The tailgates on some of the trucks seem to be 18-24 inches tall. If you really look at them, they seem to be getting almost comically large. And the vast majority of them are used just as...
  5. Articles and Videos of Interest That Don't Merit Their Own Threads

One of the main reasons Hondas and similar were such big targets was the cars were very popular, so there was a huge market for the parts. Unless Slate is REALLY popular and they expand production way past their estimates really quickly, it would take some years before there were enough on the...
  6. Global EV battery oversupply could help Slate get better batteries deal

Cost of EVs vs gasoline vehicles has to at least account for fuel costs. It's often going to cost around half to charge an EV compared to gas. Having solar is even better. In the past 10 years I've spent $12k on gas. Even if I'm getting the power "free" from the solar I already have, the problem...
  7. The Hypothetical Vehicle I Would Chose Over The Slate

Telo is planning a real slow buildup in output from what I've seen, so the time span between sold 5 and sold 1000 or 10,000 may be several years.
  8. Slate Can Do Donuts x2

That probably wasn't one of the ones they send to events, and they are prototypes with 3d printed fake knobs and buttons, people like to slam doors, jab at all the buttons, yank the knobs, etc. Though there have been some recent events apparently where they let at least some people sit in them.
  9. Slate Fastback in Dark Gray

We'll have to see when they publish numbers on range in different configurations to be sure about the aerodynamics. Them doing a lot of aerodynamics sims in the design means the truck may do better than some are guessing in truck mode, and there is that whole air bubble effect that mythbusters...
  10. Slate CEO talks accessories, third party parts, Slate Marketplace (TechCrunch interview)

It's an industry standard benchmark they are using, and again, even without that 32 or 60% adjustment, wherever they applied it, even if you calculate without the adjustment they are still massively ahead of human driven cars.
  11. Happy 6-month anniversary

It's still probably going to be the cheapest truck, and also the cheapest EV available, and probably in competition for the cheapest 4 wheeled vehicle available new. Everyone thinking mid-20s is high, hasn't looked at new car prices recently. They aren't even going to be competing with Tesla...
  12. Plywood 4x8 fit / loaded into Slate truck bed (video)

The bed does have slots where you can put 2x6 boards to support a flat sheet load, loading that way has been shown previously. Of course always use tie downs if you will be moving at road speeds, a gust of wind can put a lot of lift on your load.
  13. Slate CEO talks accessories, third party parts, Slate Marketplace (TechCrunch interview)

They did not say that 32% of every category of accidents are not reported. Underreporting is often due to factors like minor property damage, lack of significant injury, or situations occurring outside of public right-of-ways. This misreading of the math is besides the point. Even if they were...
  14. Slate announces Tesla supercharger access + 4,000 service / repair shops RepairPal partnership!

Back in 2000 when I bought a Focus, my employer had a deal with Ford to get pricing that was just a bit above employee pricing. It turns out that was basically nothing with sedans. On a truck it would have saved thousands, but the sedans even then, when the focus was the number 1 selling model...
  15. Slate announces Tesla supercharger access + 4,000 service / repair shops RepairPal partnership!

It "starts" at $54,780 there is only 1 in inventory in 20 miles of me, at over 75k. expand to 50 miles or even 500 miles and they start at over 61k, for an XLT with only a $500 charging cord as an added option, and that's after a $4k ford incentive I can't find details on. If it's fully double...
  16. Slate CEO talks accessories, third party parts, Slate Marketplace (TechCrunch interview)

Property damage crashes are going to include those that happen vs a parked car, and the driver just drives away, as well as those where both drivers are present, but decide the damage is minor enough that they don't want a hit on their insurance rates, or they are uninsured. How many times...
  17. Slate will train RepairPal shops for accessories installs, service, repairs

Still a year out on that stuff actually happening, supposed to find out more early 2026. No one is going to have an answer on any of that before then.
  18. Slate announces Tesla supercharger access + 4,000 service / repair shops RepairPal partnership!

EVs are running around 10% of new vehicle sales in the US, and increasing each year. Shops that don't invest in the equipment, facilities and training to service them will continue on for a while, but will be left behind eventually. Outside the US it's actually 25%, and with mandates in some...
  19. Slate announces Tesla supercharger access + 4,000 service / repair shops RepairPal partnership!

The problem with those national franchises is they don't cover all regions. Around me there are Napa stores, but I've never seen one that does repair. Actually looking it up, the napa site lists independent shops that are affiliated. The nearest Meineke is 60+ miles away, looks like there are...
  20. What level of DIY are you planning for your Slate?

From the photos, the fastback kit is the roll cage with minimal panel addition. Put it this way, look at the open air, that is roll cage with no topper. That same roll cage is shown in both the fastback and SUV kit, with the fastback it's just some relatively thin panels attached to the open...
