As AZFox said it's about not being reliant on fuel. We have ample solar/battery (to be in independent of the grid). And the short range isn't a hindrance because you won't want to stray far from your "home base" which is our ranch. "Bugging out" would be a last resort and we would take our Mazda...
Dual function would probably be easy to add as they would only need to add the middle part.
I'm hoping for an old-school flat bench seat, but no reason they can't make both!
Once Slate is released it will help lower used car prices. Imagine how cheap a used Slate could be. Unless they're so popular they can't keep up with production. Haha
Seeing as the Cascadia motors were used for the prototypes , it would be interesting to see if one could be swapped in to a production slate. We'll have to see.
5-10 years from now, if enough Slates are on the road, someone will probably make an aftermarket battery. This is assuming that Slate doesn't change the battery design every couple of years, and they sell a bunch of them.
The price they're advertising hasn't changed, they've been saying mid-20s from the start. The under 20k was after the tax credit that no longer exists.
With Slate saying they plan on releasing the CAD drawing, that will make aftermarket parts way easier to develop. Half the work in aftermarket development is reverse engineering and prototype fitting. With the right CAD model you can go from a complete digital design to final product very...
You can buy them on eBay or Amazon, they're a standard cut to length item. "Windshield wiper refill"
If you want something in store, just buy the cheapest wiper the correct length and pill the wiper rubber out and put it in your wiper blade.
I plan on installing one but will be limiting the charge rate to about the same as the 120 anyways. Not necessary at all with how small the battery will be but nice to have.
