I doubt if there will be any truly uncomfortable questions... They were all pre-submitted, and presumably vetted, I'm sure she has the answers already drafted.
Not sure if it fits your description, but the Rivian R2 (coming next year) may be worth a look! $45k starting price, 300 mi range, built to drive off the beaten path.
But if the Slate fits the bill for $15k cheaper, obviously a great option too.
Totally fair callout- I assume this is one of the ways they will achieve it- and a good one at that. I'm more curious about the discourse here about pre-built assemblies and such.
Interestingly enough, wouldn't the reduced SKU count be a bit counterintuitive to the whole "work on it yourself" mantra?
The way I picture the DIY thing actually being real is if they had a SKU for every single individual piece that goes into the car, and you could go onto Slate.auto/parts and...
Alternative perspective, competition breeds innovation. It is good to highlight where the competition has an edge on Slate, to hopefully push Slate to beat it, if that makes sense.
I feel like we are trying to reinvent the infotainment system... If anything, this is fun because it allows us to see why companies make the decisions they do with these systems.
At risk of sounding senile- I think this group gives a ton of slack to Slate on stuff like this. This was released as a promo to show people "look what we can do!"- but it is clearly half-baked and poorly thought out. I'm not asking for a working demo on-sale, this could have been made out of...
I daily a 5.7 0-60 car but often drive a ~9s 0-60 car. I don't do launches at stoplights for obvious reasons, but it is a noticeable difference on short on-ramps and the like. In one car, I get to choose if I go faster or slower, in the other, I always have to opt to fall in line behind whatever...
This is already an existing product, Slate likely just contracted it out to an existing manufacturer. It blocks the plate when you have a bike over it, in my experience it's a nothing-burger for enforcement.
Perhaps, but perhaps not. We've seen the market improve a bit since Tesla initially released ($25k initially for a new battery, down to $10k-ish now), but it seems to be flattening. I don't think we will see sub $5k battery replacements in the near future, maybe 8k or so.
Before labor of course.
Slate was built around affordability and “extreme customization”. The affordability topic has been beat to death- I won’t touch on it more.
So far none of the customizations are any different than you could do on an F150.
And those communities already exist. And it’s more fruitful to build them...
Seems that Slate is investing a bit of money in small creators to show how "customizable" this truck is.
Love the investment in the creators- assuming they are being well compensated- but I can't help but feel that these customizations aren't specific to Slate.... I could put a custom...
I fear you are going to have to temper your expectations a bit. This is a pretty common theme in the low-service D2C model, and it is designed to keep cost down. Canyon Bikes is one that comes to mind- Canyon makes great spec bikes at prices that other mfgs can't touch. But the bike comes in a...
