I have 3 hybrid Mavericks and I'm happy. A $20k Slate was going to be my around the farm truck. Unlicensed and a beater. Still undecided, but I can buy 2 4x4 used Silverado's for the price.

If the Slate can’t sell under $28k they’re not going to sell. This is my opinion obviously, I have a reservation and I’m hopeful.

Some people are less concerned about "value" and more about the different ownership paradigm that Slate brings to the table. In a world where we continue to have less and less ownership of the things we buy, Slate is a case where paying more money for less "stuff" and more freedom is perfectly ok with me.

I do have a maverick hybrid and I am on mtc, but not very often any more. Mainly just to see if there's yet another recall coming.

The title of this thread is absolutely irrelevant. Initial reservations meant only one thing - a modest set of people got excited at the vague promise of a cheap, simple, electric two-door truck. But that was before the facts on the ground suddenly changed. (poor range, poor performance, poor service plan, no subsidy).

The true question is "Who's buying the Slate". We're gonna find out not on the first day of deliveries. Not on the first month of deliveries. We're going to find out in late 2027, because deliveries will still be going full blast, and the factory will be humming. Or not.

Each of us on this forum is projecting our personal narratives into the future. "It'll sell well". "They'll go bankrupt inside a year". "Slate will be a runaway hit and an instant gotta have cult truck". "Slate will be a hit with fleets". But the only narrative that matters is the one written by actual buyers in the real world.

Just for context, and to demonstrate some humility. Over on the Maverick forum, I've been predicting for years that the Maverick will finally stop selling out "this year", as the market is finally saturated. And for five years Mavericks have sold out and I've looked like a total imbecile.

I think the Slate will get an exciting surge of initial sales. And then I think they'll collapse. But I'm fully prepared to look like a total imbecile... Again.

Alternative perspective, competition breeds innovation. It is good to highlight where the competition has an edge on Slate, to hopefully push Slate to beat it, if that makes sense.

Not exactly sold out when someone in this thread posted a dealer with over 40 on their lot, my local dealer has over 260 available for transfer in their network, and a thread on MTC just the other reported nearly 50,000 more produced in 2025 than were sold YTD. November 2025 gross stock reported at over 40,000.

We knew from launch what the range and performance was going to be, and that service would be through some 3rd party, and some of us knew we wouldn't benefit much from a subsidy, or could read the politics and knew it might not last at all anyway.
If you really think any of that besides the subsidy changed, why are you still here?

I’ve already reserved mine, but I’m still trying to figure out what the real out-the-door price might be. A lot of people keep mentioning $27,500 as the price, so I ran some numbers based on that. Using Arizona figures from caredge.com (excluding the delivery fee and any trade-in), the out-the-door price for a base Slate comes out to $30,967.75 once taxes and fees are added.

If the out-the-door price actually ended up being $27,500, that would put the truck’s base price at around $24,032.20. That means we’re looking at roughly a $6,935.50 window between a low-mid and a high-mid 20’s

What makes me hesitant to believe the $27,500 number is that they originally said the price at launch—with the now-defunct tax credit—would come in “below the 20s.” We don’t know how far below they meant. It could be something like $25,000, which is only about $2,500 under $27,500. So at this point, it’s hard to say exactly where the real price will land.

I have not found anything stated by Slate that said $27,500. Instead they said under $20k after federal incentive, which yes, many 3rd parties calculated out to get the $27,500 number. The intended original price must have been $27,499 or lower, we don't know how much lower, and we don't know if the intent was for there to be a destination fee on top of that. Destination fees usually cover transportation to the dealer, but they have to be a flat fee, and not depend on distance. We can hope that Slate calculated transport to major cities into the stated price, but can't count on it.

On sales taxes and registration fees, which are beyond Slate's control, I would expect mine in California to be among the highest, and for an electric truck in 2026, the DMV calculates them to total $3,200 based on a price of $27,500, for a total of $30,700 which is a bit below your Arizona number. That includes taxes and fees down to the local level.
