I feel like the crank windows was absolutely something that came up in an original design meeting as a 'fun and quirky' feature, and they stuck with it. If it didn't have the power locks I'd 100% side with the crank windows but as many have said, it makes no sense if you've already got a loom in...
I put in that question for the Q&A like the e-mail was implying they were for and got one of those reply emails from Slate. "Thanks for the Question! We're sti-" I ain't talking to you, put Chris on the phone!
I agree 100% on the CarPlay, or in my case, Android Auto. I get why they try to do it, premium connectivity is something you can upcharge, but they don't need to try being premium software developers. I'll keep my already curated music on my apps, my instantly updated Waze maps, and the ability...
I don't like saying this as I'm probably laser targeted by Slate's marketing team as a pickleball playing millennial, but I think the push towards these $30 dollar burger folks right now is done very purposely. They're putting these trucks in trendy coffee shops and upscale farmers markets where...
I'm hoping that Slate's plan here is just that, to keep the base "Slate" frame as long as they can and work subsequent redesigns that use as much of the same parts as possible. Benefits the new buyers as the price of the accessories should stay stable, and older owners can benefit from continued...
I do think the Slate will struggle against the constant Maverick comparisons, regardless of how much they're warranted. I think Slate's big advantage will be the 'second car.' A good example I can think of personally is a coworker who drives a Laramie Dually RAM and his wife has a Jeep Cherokee...
Airbags are no longer a 'feature' that automakers need to advertise so they're nearly invisibly integrated into the cars. Much like the Slate, my Element has a perfectly flat upper dashboard and in a crash, the airbag rips open a |____| shaped flap and comes out of the top:
My first car made...
I've mentioned this before in a different thread, but I have worked semiconductor, specifically automotive-specific products. We'd nominally test chip operation at room temp (25C) then 130C (266F) and back to 25C, making adjustments each time to ensure it worked as well at high temp as it did...
Mine was smart enough to want to see it change states at least once, so I couldn't get away with just dumping the signal straight to ground. What a pain!
I'm just looking for some sort of bracket that would fit into the slot and allow a double din radio to mount. Paired with a panel that has a cutout for the radio to poke through.
Any radio with any sort of "photo/video" function wants a handbrake on signal to ensure the driver is not driving the vehicle while looking at pictures / videos / etc. My Pioneer I put in my Element doesn't have a photo viewer or video player or any of that but still wanted it just to set the...
I'm fully on team Slate, but if it hits 30 grand or more, it starts hitting more competition for a fun two door runabout... I'd just hate to use this for hauling junkyard parts!
That's my suspicion too. Putting the glass in it for wrappers to have to work with will over complicate things and just be another way for someone to peer into the cargo area. Fully expecting something like
Wishing Slate would offer big rubber block bumper guards like cars in the 5mph bumper days. They have those big squares in the standard bumper, throw some blocks in there!
I'm an American, and I'm typically in this country 7 days a week. So I would definitely fall into category 1.
But on a more normal note, definitely category 5. It's interesting that 100K number hasn't gone up at all. You'd think if they now had 150 or 200K they'd be advertising that...
I put my questions in, most notable being whether there'd be accessory power capable of a single or double din radio prewired into the truck and would there be easy capability to run speakers to the doors.
Dittoing the offline maps mode. Google maps will happily download me the entire DFW metroplex all the way up to the Oklahoma state line for around 450Mb. Far smaller than I would have expected for such a massive city. I wouldn't be against a little android tablet permanently stuck to the truck...
I'm hoping the app will be a simple setup for navigation with battery life of the truck factored in... if you plug it in. I wholly intend to not use the app at all, but will keep it installed as I expect it will also be where you'll get push notifications for vehicle updates. It'll pre-download...
I had an 89 Maxima briefly as a project that had the keypad. Worked brilliantly. Aside from unlocking, it allowed you to lock the doors, roll the windows down, or pop the trunk with it as well.
