This is generally the right approach to avoid the pitfalls you mention, but I'm hoping that Slate's OEM lift and lowering kits are properly designed for the truck.
I read about people wearing out axles on slightly lifted Ridgelines so I always kept mine stock height, but the R1T has 7 inches of...
Yes, but it kind of depends on what you're towing. Generally you need to be able to see 200 feet behind the trailer with your mirrors. If it's a little utility trailer, regular mirrors are usually fine, but it also depends on how wide the towing vehicle is. The Slate is pretty small, but with...
It does look pretty good with the raised white letter tires and no wood staked bed. Kind of hard to screw this truck up.
I think we're still on topic of the original post.
While I like functional mirrors, the larger ones give me delivery van vibes, though I do like the stem design. They look more retro and classic than the small ones shown. The small ones look like they belong on a penalty box crossover.
They are really driving home the idea of customization. The truck's base design really lends itself to a lot of great looks. Slate is comfortably parking in Scout's spot:
Doing some more research on this, the EPS motor probably couldn't be used for autosteer on its own as the truck doesn't have auto steering to begin with. It relies on your input and then augments that with the EPS motor. If Openpilot takes over, it wouldn't have that input. It would be trying...
I picked the new Maverick. I'd like another EV, but there are currently no small EV trucks other than the Slate, except maybe Ford someday. I already have a gas car. I am tired of large trucks. I almost never use their full utility, but I enjoy driving smaller vehicles, and I find they are...
Are there unibody trucks or utes that appeal to you? Not trying to be argumentative (I agree, that mockup is a disaster) but I'm wondering what an appealing shape would be. I like the Maverick, but I think the Santa Clauz is hideous. Maybe because it's too car-like, or that I just don't care...
I'd guess that scanner may be to spot check dimensions of a batch of parts and see that robotic movements are as accurate and precise they should be, not for scanning each truck. Someone who buys a Slate with removable body panels shouldn't really care much about panel gaps anyway.
I think they could have used a better caption.
"Like using a touchscreen to set your HVAC? Neither do we. We can't wait for you to reconnect with the way it should be."
Openpilot includes the ADAS camera/brain and uses the existing controls to drive the car. I think they have camera-only branches that don't require radar integration. You can even install Openpilot hardware on a vehicle with BlueCruise, though I've found BC to be pretty good now.
I like...
It's sad. Aftermarket options have gotten fewer as more and more vehicles have infotainment systems that can't be replaced. There are a few integrated options for particularly high volume vehicles like the F150, but without standardization, an aftermarket company can't justify the resources...
They always sold fewer S/X than the 3/Y. Tesla kept them around for several years just for sentimental reasons.
Despite the ongoing improvements to performance, exterior styling, lighting, and ADAS, it's a real shame what they did to the interior in 2021, primarily the steering wheel/yoke...
I think they can to a point and/or maybe for a while. But who knows what that point is or how long that is?
Demand for something new and shiny (okay, maybe not shiny) can be fairly inelastic since it has the intrinsic value of being "first" and different. A lot of industries, including autos...
There were some pretty significant headwinds at the Maverick's launch due to the lingering COVID supply chain problems. Ford couldn't get batteries for the most desirable hybrid, and chips were in short supply for the higher end trims. Even the F150s were decontented at the time, and they only...
I think it would be a stretch without some kind of built in ADAS, even a rudimentary one, but it might not be impossible.
I think at most, Openpilot could get you some level of adaptive cruise since it would effectively just take over the throttle control which is "easy," but it wouldn't...
