There’s some resemblance in the front view of the little Bronco and the Slate. I don’t think it’s enough to disrupt but the big 3 aren’t known for playing nice. Anyone know which was registered ( trademarked, copyrighted, whatever) first?

When I first saw the Slate, I thought it looked so much like a Bronco Sport that the Slate must be what Ford Skunkworks was working on, and they would "claim it" after they saw a positive reaction. That wasn't the case, but I see where you're coming from.

I mean, the Bronco Sport has been out since 2021, so I don't actually understand the purpose of your question, but I see the resemblance.

Do you remember in the 1990s there was a Mitsubishi that looked more like a BMW front end then an actual BMW? I don’t think Mitsubishi got in trouble for copying the likeness of BMW for their car. I don’t recall the model of the Mitsubishi.

It's not just Slate to baby-Bronco. Lots of vehicles share vague resemblances with each other. I am not aware of anything defensible about generically retro truck/SUV styling with classically round headlights.

I would say the Slate actually looks closer to the Gen6 Bronco rather than the Bronco Sport. The Bronco Gen6 is obviously a Retromod of the Gen1 Bronco that dates back to 1966, of which FoMoCo has trademark.

Both the Bronco and Bronco Sport significantly predate the Slate by at least 5 or even 6 years. Actual trademarks probably before that I'd bet.

Mitsubishi Galant?

I also don't think BMW actually sued them. I remember the Galant, but until you said something I never really thought "BMW" when I saw the front.

As for the Slate/Bronco, I guess there's some similarity, but it also didn't jump out at me. They both have round headlights and a sort-of similar grille, but the Slate is a cleaner design and the front end doesn't have that banana shape.

Slate operated in the shadows for awhile before they went public with anything. I was wondering if there was a potential for issues there.

Growing up I could id make, even a model way down the road. Todays vehicles are so similar I need to read the label.
