The Animated Lamp upgrade lists "greater functionality and customizable, pre-set lighting animations". curious what the greater functionality could be. If you're lurking in here Slate, State of Charge would definitely be a great function.

The animated Front Lamp Upgrade ($350) and the animated Tail Lamp Upgrade ($500) are the only external add ons I expect to get. I'm not even planning on getting a wrap.
In a blank Slate with it's gray composite body panels and inexpensive look, those lights will speak for themselves.
Currently the best video showing these lights, and some of the possible animations, is fromThe Electric Duo.

Animated turn signals, like a wave of lights moving in the direction you are turning. Also they seem to be multi color, so you can have things like amber turn signal and red brake lights in one unit.

I think they're for being seen, not seeing.

The Fog Lights are for seeing.

Kit Includes: Two (2) fog lights, aimable mount and hardware, harness, and switch. Must have Front Bumper Upgrade and appropriate Five Switch to complete installation (sold separately). Fits all body styles.

I really wish the fog lights didn't require 2 other accessories to add on. I understand the switch panel (kind of - they could have had an existing space with a couple popout switch plates maybe), but to have to get a whole new bumper for them? That's messed up.

Hoping we'll find a pattern with that. Slate being the sort of "here are some basic official things" source but a lot of people finding more varied(/cheaper) aftermarket stuff.

The Slate seems to have a lot of mounting/fastener points. I imagine it won't be necessary for official things. They seem to want things to be relatively accessible and reversible.

Wondering why Slate jumped in both feet first into external lighting, while an aftermarket already exists and is saturated with options. I think their efforts would have been better spent on unique accessories that are Slate specific.

Case in point: Audio speaker options are nice to see, but what about older generation customers who want a good old fashioned plug and play radio and don’t wish to stream content from their phones? Throw in a Slate-ready tuner, maybe even an integrated CD player in the maker. Done!

Is it so much that Slate jumped in or more that external lighting suppliers, when given the opportunity to get in early, jumped? I'm interested in Slate-specific unique accessories (such as the rack towers), but I don't really see much opportunity cost in any of the accessories that we already know are just from engaged third parties.

I think you need to keep in mind Peter Faricy's background and why he was brought on board. He is explicitly all about expanding the store and making it the preeminent place for Slate owners to get Slate stuff.

Exactly. All the accessories that got added ARE aftermarket, from companies that decided to jump in and offer something that is either fitted to Slate, or even just their standard stuff, guaranteed to fit. I wouldn't be surprised to see a bunch more of this by the time trucks start delivering.
